40K: Not Another Stormclaw Box, Please

Space Wolves vs Orks. It’s a classic match-up, right? But it’s also been done before. Games Workshop – if you’re listening, here’s a few suggestions on army pairings I’d rather see in a new “Campaign Box” instead of Sanctus Reach: Stormclaw 2.0.

Games Workshop has a good track record when it comes to Boxed Sets for Warhammer 40,00o. These “Campaign Sets” typically involve 2 fairly equally matched forces and come with enough “stuff” so new players and vets alike are tempted to pick it up. Plus they have historically come with everything you needed to get started – it’s really a win-win. I would love to see more of those boxes! What I don’t want to see is the same theme repeated.

Forgebane – a great starting point and a new “theme” to boot!

So why am I picking on Stormclaw? Well, for one, it seems like an obvious set. We’re still waiting on both an Ork Codex and a Space Wolf Codex to be announced. It would make sense that GW would revisit both of those armies with a new “Campaign Boxed Set”…except it’s been done before. So instead of just complaining about something I’m here to offer some suggestions of alternative boxed sets I think would be a great fit.

Orks vs Tyranids – Octarius War

This is my number 1 pick for a new boxed set. Mostly because it’s one of my favorite campaigns of all time – it’s Orks vs Tyranids and this fight is just a straight-up brawl. The Orks and Nids are throwing down after a certain Inquisitor diverts their paths and essentially tricks them into fighting. It was a ploy to buy time, but who ever wins the battle might end-up being an even better killer than before.

This campaign does come to an end, but that doesn’t mean we can’t replay it – but this boxed set would inspire a whole batch of new battles in the Grim-Dark!

Orks vs Aeldari – Waaagh! Rekkfist

The Eldar have also been known to manipulate Ork WAAGH!!! away from their own craftworlds and such – well what would happen if the Orks decided to take on the Aeldari directly instead of falling for their tricks? WAAAGH!!! Rekkfist is a perfect example of what could happen when these two races throw down.

Space Wolves vs Dark Angels – The Siege of Fenris

It’s been a rivalry for years – can we finally get a campaign of these two Marine Chapters just going at it already? The Dark Angels have popped-up in the recent lore of the Space Wolves and with some Inquisitorial allies, they laid siege to the Fenris System. What exactly happened because I have a feeling that it wasn’t just a friendly training exercise when they faced off. GW – let that pot of aggression boil over and let’s see the fight we’ve all been waiting for!

Space Wolves vs Slaanesh

Slaanesh might be getting a relaunch…we hope. Why not release Space Wolves around the same time, toss them in a new “Campaign Box” and let them duke it out! We’ve got the feral and straight-forward Spaces Wolves vs the graceful and deceptive Slaaneshi Daemons. Seems like it could be an interesting fight…

Orks vs Genestealer Cult – The Cult War

While most folks think that the Genestealer Cults are just there to overthrow the yoke of the Imperium and welcome the freedom that the Four-Armed Emperor brings, it’s also a well known fact that they are also vicious defenders of their territory. If an Ork WAAAGH!!! happened to come across a planet with a Genestealer Cult infestation brewing, the Cult would rise up and fight against the Green-tide. That’s a battle I’d like to see!

There are so many options GW from the lore GW could tap, it would be a shame to see them rehash the same idea again. And we’re not even considering doing a non-Ork or non-Space Wolf set. It could be a straight up Xenos vs Xenos fight…Just sayin.

What Campaign Boxed Set would you like to see GW do? What Campaign would it be based off of?
