The Idoneth Deepkin are coming and they are an entirely new army advancing on the shores of the Mortal Realms. With that comes a ton of new lore and today Games Workshop is previewing the Namarti – the mysterious soul-thieves from under the sea.

via Warhammer Community

The Namarti are the largest and lowliest caste in the society of the Idoneth Deepkin, born with withering souls. Namarti must sustain themselves on the stolen souls of others – where the Daughters of Khaine might raid for sport or to give praise to their god, for the Namarti, it’s a matter of life and death.

One of the Namarti’s eeriest features is their lack of eyes. If eyes are the windows to the soul then that might explain why these “withered souls” don’t have them. Typically they are relegated to the more menial tasks in the Idoneth society – but it’s not because of their lack of eyes. They are actually quite adept fighters and are able to detect “minute vibrations in the ethersea” – this is almost better than having regular vision in some ways.

The Namarti On The Tabletop

Namarti units make up the core of any Idoneth Deepkin army, with Namarti Thralls being the only standard Battleline unit in the list (though you’ll be able to unlock more, depending on your chosen general). The second type of Namarti, the Namarti Reavers, will be out in the next few weeks with a kit of their own.

When it comes to basic core troopers, the Namarti Thralls are very capable. Their Lanmari Blades are able to cut through armor and they can dish out a decent number of attacks to boot.

Hitting and Wounding on 3+ is pretty good. While they don’t have much in the way of armor a successful general will have to use that hard-hitting profile with their aelven speed to get them where you need them. Oh and lets not discount their allegiance abilities. They make excellent screening units when combined with Forgotten Nightmares:

And don’t forget about the Tides of Death Table – you’re going to want to get them in close combat eventually and High Tide is really going to help! Then there are the characters like Lotann, Warden of the Soul Ledgers who will give them the ability to re-roll 1s to hit.

This army will have layers of abilities that will create a monsoon of carnage when it crashes down on your enemies. If you can master their art of war you’ll be able to roll in like the tide and be just as unstoppable!

What do you think of the Namarti? Are you going to take the plunge and start and Idoneth Deepkin army?
