40K RUMORS: About Abaddon

Knights are almost upon us, but the Despoiler has plans in motion…

As Imperial Knights arrive, we are hitting the end of GW’s last official codex wave announcement, but the rumormill and simple arithmetic are doing the rest.

As we reach the end of the known codexes:

Only 3 previously printed books remain:

  • Orks
  • Space Wolves
  • Genestealer Cults

I think we can safely assume that Adepta Sororitas will await their fancy new range in 2019. The funky odds and ends “codexes” like Imperial Agents are more of a kitchen sink that is covered well for now by the Index books.

The RUMORS

Latest word says to look for Orks shortly after Knights hit the scene. There are already plenty of rumors about what Ghaz is up to in 8th edition.

Then the rurmor-mongers say to look for (in any order):

  • Space Wolves
  • Genestealer Cults
  • Ynnari (you can read the rumors here)

The Narratives Beyond

That should wrap up the full set of 8th codexes in a little over a year since the new edition was rolled out – quite a feat for a full ruleset reboot. The rumors say that GW will then return to their previous model of narrative campaigns to move the story forward and release new minis to go with them. Similar to things like Kauyon – Mont’ka, and Rise of the Primarch.

Rumors say to look for the initial set of these to center around Abaddon and what he’s been up to in the aftermath of Fall of Cadia. I’m sure his Black Crusades continue. Common sense would point to a book with the big guy and his Black Legion (who used to have a 7th Edition supplemental codex).

No timeframes are floating around, but common sense would put this on the far side of at least 3-4 more 40K codexes and Age of Sigmar 2nd Edition. That sounds like late Q3-Q4.
