The Kharadron Overlords are one of the most unique factions aesthetically in all of Age of Sigmar. They came on the scene with fancy new airships and brought the first transport rules to the game. So how are they stacking-up in the up coming edition? Let’s find out!

After the reveal of the shooting rules tweak this morning I was wondering what the Kharadron Overlords were going to look like in the next edition. While they aren’t what I’d call a ‘Gunline’ army, they do bring quite the firepower to the shooting range. Turns out they should be just fine thanks to their other tricks.

The Kharadron Overlords are mercantile skyborne duardin who have mastered the use of aether-gold – a magical material seeded through the very clouds of the Mortal Realms – through esoteric technology. With this power, they have built an empire in the skies, forged on their strange science, enormous fleets of airships and the Kharadron Code – a set of strictures that governs the behaviour and relationships of Kharadron society (though they are somewhat open to interpretation).

The Grundstok Thunderers are going to be a popular choice in the new edition for the Overlords. Their ability to bring heavy firepower has been invaluable, but with the way shooting will work, their other ability will become even more important.

This means that if your Grundstok Thunderers get charged, when you activate them, instead of being forced to make attacks they can instead move away. This prevents them from getting locked into only shooting the unit that charged them in the following Shooting Phase (ie, your next turn). That’s going to be very useful to getting the most out of this high-firepower unit.

Also, as mentioned above, they Kharadron Overlords have the ability to ride into battle. Use that to your advantage to bring Heroes along with your units – with the new Command Abilities/Points you might just find some nasty combos that you couldn’t use before. Plus who knows what else they might get when the Generals Handbook comes out as well.

To deal with the new magic, you’re going to have to rely on your own Aetheric Navigators which can unbind spells like a wizard – or you’re going to have to reach outside your tool box. You’ve got the new Sacroscanct Chamber to call on with their Knight-Incantors and the new Lord-Arcanum. or you could bring along your own Alchemical Chain which can be used by any Hero:

For some players, hokey religions magics and ancient melee weapons are no match for a good blaster Aethershot Rifle by your side. If you do prefer to get down and dirty with the shooting phase well you’ll be glad to know that Kharadron Overlords units are seeing a points drop, too. The Grundstok Gunhauler is now 160 points, which is an 80 point drop! the Arkanaut Frigate and Ironclad have also received “similar drops” in points. If those Airships are 2/3rds the cost of what they were before then get ready for a new armada to arrive at a tabletop near you!

The Kharadon Overlords are floating in to a port near you!
