Chaos is looking like a pretty strong contender in the upcoming Age of Sigmar 2.0 update. With loads of options for different play-styles and a strong thematic element Khorne is going to enjoy this new season of war in the Mortal Realms.

Warhammer: Age of Sigmar is getting a second edition. I’ve been waiting to see what other changes are heading our way and Games Workshop has been previewing all the factions. The Blades of Khorne – a faction I’ve been known to play – is next up on the preview wagon and I’m liking what I’m reading so far.

“Khorne is the Chaos God of warfare, battle and bloodshed. For his followers, war is no means to riches, lands or glory – war is an end in and of itself, a quest to spill blood and take skulls for their infernal lord.

While Sigmar’s Storm may have pushed back the Blades of Khorne in the Realm of Fire, the Blood God remains a dominant force in the Mortal Realms, and his legions remain amongst the largest and most feared armies of the age.”

When it comes to martial prowess, each devotee of Khorne has a thing or two to show-off. They thrive in close-combat and the live to spill blood for Khorne. They are an army that can kill you in many different ways and they have some new tricks to show-off as well.

As was mentioned in a previous article, Command Abilities are going to be a bit more open in use. You’ll be able to trigger them with Command Points, with some restrictions. This means you can now use those ‘Heroic’ abilities that your non-General Hero has – and for Khorne that can be down right terrifying.

“Start by taking a Chaos Lord on Manticore, Aspiring Deathbringer of your choice, a Lord of Khorne on Juggernaut and a massive unit of Chaos Warriors with the Mark of Khorne. With the Aspiring Deathbringer giving every member in the unit an extra attack from Slaughter Incarnate, the Lord of Khorne on Juggernaut giving them +1 to wound from Blood Stampede, and the Chaos Lord on Manticore allowing them re-roll charge rolls, wound rolls and battleshock tests with Iron-willed Overlord, they’ll be a nigh-unstoppable force!”

That’s a lot of eggs in one basket. While that will cost you 3 Command Points to activate, woe to the victims of this coordinated, bloody assault. If you get hit by a unit that juiced up on the Khorne-aid, good luck finding anything besides blood and skulls when they are done. “But that’s still 3 Command Points – you’ll have to wait at least a couple turns to trigger that!” …Well, not exactly:

If you’re building your lists and have a couple of odd points left over, now you can exchange those for extra command points. That could be pretty great when you have those odd-ball point lists. I have a feeling this exchange rate just might impact list-building in some very interesting ways. I can totally see players building 1900/1850 point lists JUST to get some extra command points to spend on dirty tricks with those Command Abilities.

It’s time to get back to hitting the books and looking for those perfect synergies fellow Blades of Khorne players. Study-up and get ready to go to war. Khorne wants his skulls and blood – time to collect what’s owed to him!

Now that we know we can effectively ‘Buy’ extra CP – anyone else going to rejigger there lists for AoS 2.0?!
