The latest preview from Games Workshop gives the Sylvaneth the Green Light – It’s go time for plant-people!

Warhammer: Age of Sigmar is getting it’s second edition in June and with it we are seeing a bunch of new changes. To showcase these changes, Games Workshop has been previewing each faction and how they are going to function in the new edition. From Summoning Changes to Command Point and Ability rules, AoS 2.0 is shaping up to be a quite the edition.

“The Sylvaneth are fey creatures from the wilds of the Mortal Realms, particularly prevalent in Ghyran – the Realm of Life. Seemingly linked to the aelves, these creatures are formed not of flesh and blood but bark and sap, living in perfect harmony with the forests and glades they call home. From Dryads to Treelords, the Sylvaneth are each bringers of life – or, to those who would invade their homes, death.”

Alarielle the Everqueen has been a imposing figure in the lore and on the tabletop since the new edition launched with and the Sylvaneth showed-up on the scene.  In 2.0 she’s going to be even more impressive thanks to the summoning rules getting tweaked. Now her new ability Soul Amphorae is going to allow you to bring some pretty mean units on to the tabletop mid game – and you don’t have save reinforcement points to do it!

Having the ability to summon a Treelord once per game is pretty sweet! But I love the tactical flexibility of this spell as well. That’s a pretty diverse line-up of options you can summon in and I’m sure players are going to appreciate this in their tactical toolbox.

Points, Points, Points

Several Units got a points discount in the new edition as well. These updates will be in the General’s Handbook, but for starters we know for sure that the Kurnoth Hunters and the Spirit of Durthu will be cheaper. Hey, I’ll take any reason to see more Hunters on the board – those are some of my favorite models to date:

More Realm Specific Artefacts

Just like other preivews GW is also showing off some of the new Realm Specific Artefacts that all players will be able to use. These two hail from Ghyran.

Hypersnare Seeds are great for supporting your army by stalling an enemy unit dead in it’s tracks. At the end of your OPPONENT’s shooting phase, you can target an enemy unit with 8″ of the bearer and on a 5+, that unit can’t charge. Couple of things to note – yes, it’s not 100% guaranteed. It’s not even a 50-50 shot. But it’s also NOT one use only. Odds are in your favor that this should go off at least once if you can manage to attempt it multiple times in a 5 turn game. And when it does go off, be ready to pounce!

And speaking of pouncing on a trapped foe, the Entangling Blade is pretty useful, too. If you hit with the blade, you subtract 1 from hit rolls for that Hero or Monster until the end of the phase in which the hits were scored. This means that it works on both players turns. If you play your cards right (ie, activate the right units) you’ll be able to decrease the chance of one of the enemy heroes going to town on a unit. -1 to Hit can really add-up!

The Army of Life is going to be be a strong contender in the next edition – I hope you’ve stocked-up on weed-killer!
