The next storyline for Dungeons and Dragons takes players to Waterdeep, the City of Splendors. Players will be matching wits with a bunch of villains, to try and keep a cache of treasure out of the hands of several different villains. Come take a look.

This is pretty exciting friends. The next adventure is an urban adventure, a toolbox to help players and DMs alike delve into what it means to run a city themed game. Which is exciting, especially since this adventure feels very much like one of those races to try and get the treasure. At the center of the adventure, a cache of Dragons (a gold coin in Waterdeep) pursued by various villains and other NPCs.

This one is real interesting folks. City adventures are full of different kinds of adventuring possibilities. This takes planning, cunning, and a whole lot of adventure. Waterdeep is a massive city, one of the biggest in the realms, and there’s a lot of baggage that comes with adventuring in a city. Characters can get arrested. Brawling, fighting, things in the middle of the street mean that the guards show up to try and arrest folks. You’ve got to deal with guilds and all kinds of other city related paraphernalia.

But the coolest thing about this adventure is that it comes with multiple villains that the DM can decide are the driving force behind the adventure. The villain can be selected from a rogue’s gallery of ne’er-do-wells that mean you get a different adventure each time, depending on your DM. And the goal of the adventure–try and steal a pile of gold before the villains get it through whatever means necessary. Which, if you’re thinking just kick in the door and kill everyone, there’s a lot standing in your way.

The adventure itself is designed for levels 1-5, but the villains are much more powerful. Their interaction with the party isn’t necessarily get in a stand up fight. The villains should rather drive the motion of the story forward, giving the players things to react to, and presenting them with interesting challenges to overcome via clever means. Or just lucky brute force too. The book is due out September 18th, so be sure and keep an eye out for more details as they develop.
