Geekery: ‘The Predator’ Gets a Trailer that Doesn’t Totally Suck

20th Century Fox has put out three trailers so far that were all disappointing messes. We have a trailer that actually shows off the movie now, the question is: is the movie worth it?
A new kind of Predator is entering the fight in the latest installment of the franchise…

From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.

The script is from franchise veteran Shane Black (Predator, Iron Man 3)  and Fred Dekker (Night Of The Creeps); cast includes Olivia Munn, Keegan-Michael Key, Sterling K. Brown, Edward James Olmos, and Thomas Jane. Mix of b-list stars and a horror legend could go either way.

Might not be the best thing to blast at work.

Why was this not the first trailer out of the gate.. or, at least, why did the person that edited this edit the other three? It makes sense, there are plot hints and fights in the jungle and that signature sound. We also get a good look at the new, genetically modified giant Predator that’s been hinted at.

It’s worth noting that I’m not a fan that has a lot of investment in this, so it looks to me like a serviceable popcorn movie or at least one you can catch on basic cable late night and enjoy. I don’t think this is going to go far in theaters because this is going to make long time fans happy. The plot isn’t really what they were hoping for, at least that’s what I’m seeing around the net.

They put out a banging new poster, though.

The Predator hits theaters on September 14th.
