Many great games were had this this past weekend at WarGamesCon X. During this time Kirk Dalton piloted his Skorne army to win the Champions Tournament on Friday, qualified for Masters on Saturday and took home the win in Masters on Sunday. Lets check out some of his lists.

Champions requires players to use casters and themes from the current ADR Roster, in this case, ADR Season 8, or one of the mk3 battlebox casters. Kirk brought Makeda2 and Xekaar as his Champions pairing. Masters has no restrictions on casters or themes and Kirk brought the Morghul2 and the same Xekaar list from the Champions event.

I’m no expert on these lists, but here they are along with some initial impressions.

Makeda2 – Champions List – Theme: Masters of War

  • Makeda2
    • Molik Karn
    • Krea
  • 2x Willbreaker
  • Tyrant Rhadiem
  • Legends of Halaak
  • Beast Handlers (min)
  • Praetorian Ferox (max)
  • Praetorian Ferox (min)
  • Praetorian Swordsmen (max)
    • Praetorian Swordsman Officer & Standard
  • 2x Tyrant Commander

Makeda2 with double Ferox has been a popular build before theme forces were even released. This is largely due to the several interesting layers of survivability the list brings. The Willbreakers giving Tough to the naturally steady Ferox allows these models keep standing if they pass their Tough check. If they fail their Tough check, Makeda2 can use her Stay Death ability and spend a fury to keep that model alive. Lastly Tyrant Rhadiem gives all the Ferox in his command range Dodge, allowing them to move 2 inches when missed by an enemy attack. Using these abilities at the right moment will allow you to mess with your opponents plans by keeping key models alive, or dodging them out of the way to prevent them from being attacked further.

Xekaar – Champions and Masters List – Theme: Imperial Warhost

  • Xekaar 1
    • Agonizer
    • Agonizer
    • Basilisk Drake
    • Basilisk Drake
    • Basilisk Drake
    • Basilisk Drake
    • Basilisk Krea
    • Basilisk Krea
    • Chiron
  • Swamp Gobber Chef
  • Paingiver Beast Handlers (max)
  • Paingiver Beast Handlers (max)
  • Siege Animantarax
  • Siege Animantarax

Xekaar hasn’t been on most people’s radar, but this list is definitely making me give him another look. Double Siege Animantarax is super popular right now (for good reason), but it’s the battlegroup that I really like in this list. Xekaar’s character beast Chiron has an awesome Spray 10, POW 15 gun that can add or remove fury points on warbeasts hit by the attack. Even better is that all the attack rolls are boosted thanks to the bond with Xekaar. Chiron is definitely in the running for one of the best sprays in the game.

This list can create a giant brick of armor in the middle of the board. The fast battle engines can run ahead of the army form a wall. This creates a safe space for Xekaar and the rest of the army to stand behind. With Agonizers, Krea and Feat it’s incredibly hard to kill the Siege Animantarax’s allowing the list to get a potentially devastating alpha strike the following turn.

Morghul2 – Masters List – Theme: Masters of War

  • Morghoul 2
    • Archidon
    • Archidon
    • Archidon
    • Aptimus Marketh
  • Extoller Soulward
  • Tyrant Rhadeim
  • Cataphract Incindiarii (min)
  • Legends of Halaak
  • Paingiver Beast Handlers (min)
  • Praetorian Ferox (max)
  • Praetorian Swordsmen (max)
    • Praetorian Swordsman Officer & Standard
  • Tyrant Commander & Standard Bearer
  • Tyrant Commander & Standard Bearer

Morghul2 loves the Sprint animus and having 3 Archidons is a great way to ensure that he has access to it all game. The theme benefits from Masters of War allow warrior models to shut down enemy tough and many recursion abilities. Morghul’s feat blinds all enemies in his Line of Sight and Control which is great for dealing with enemy warrior models and battle engines. One cool interaction is that the Tyrant Commander can give Morghul +2 SPD when making a full advance, which also applies when sprinting! With Apparition, Shadow Play, Sprint and SPD 9 when advancing, Morghul can get into some pretty unexpected places on the board.

Wrap Up

Hope you enjoyed reading about Kirk’s lists! Congratulations once again to Kirk Dalton for winning the Champions and Masters event this year. Taking down both a Champions and Masters event at the same con is an impressive achievement and it was well earned victory.

What do you think of these Skorne lists? Going to give them a try?
