When someone challenged me to build an all Captain list that could win games – how could I say no?

Goatboy here and dangit where is the FAQ? It is making me twitch as I can’t really build lists right now.  But this still doesn’t keep me from thinking of dumb stuff that is currently legal in the pre FAQ environment.  Someone posted on one of the many Facebook groups I am a part of about an all “Captain” style list.  I thought the idea was dumb – but had merit to make something better.  Thus the below abomination I threw together in Battle Scribe.

The big issue of the initial list was it was all characters a no meat to try and abuse the whole – hidden unit can’t shoot my character rule.  Plus it had no command points to really work with as it was mostly set up with a ton of since CP detachments.  This isn’t any good as you want your smash captains smashing things.  Thus I just threw a bunch of stuff together and made this mess.

Captain O’ My Captain!

Ultramarine Battalion (might be more fun to do Raven Guard – but this army is designed to do damage)
HQ: Captain, Jump Pack, Thunder Hammer, Storm Shield – Warlord – Adept of the Codex – Relic Shield Eternal
HQ: Captain, Jump Pack, Thunder Hammer, Storm Shield
HQ: Captain, Jump Pack, Thunder Hammer, Storm Shield
Troops: Scouts X 5

Blood Angels Battalion – 6 CP – so net of -1 CP to total
HQ: Captain, Jump Pack, Thunder Hammer, Storm Shield – Make DC – 1 CP – Give Veritas Vitae – 1 CP
HQ: Captain, Jump Pack, Thunder Hammer, Storm Shield – Make DC – 1 CP – Give Hammer or no Overwatch Jump – 2 CP
HQ: Captain, Jump Pack, Thunder Hammer, Storm Shield – Make DC – 1 CP
Troops: Scouts X 5

Space Wolves Supreme Command
HQ: Wolf Lord, Jump Pack, Thunder Hammer, Storm Shield
HQ: Wolf Lord, Jump Pack, Thunder Hammer, Storm Shield
HQ: Wolf Lord, Jump Pack, Thunder Hammer, Storm Shield
HQ: Rune Priest, Jump Pack, Runic Armor, Psychic Hood
HQ: Rune Priest, Jump Pack, Runic Armor, Psychic Hood
Elite: Murderfang (Just Cuz he is a character and a stone cold baller)

CP Total – 8 to begin with.  Enough to do some dumb things and having 2 rolls to gain back CP isn’t too bad.

List Thoughts

Now is this list any good?  Most likely not as it is just a ton of characters.  You will burn through CP and need to ensure your scouts are set up in places to either hide or be annoying to allow all your characters special protection.  Plus you will give up head hunter like its nobodies business.

You could also go with Raven Guard instead if you wanted too – but as you are using scouts to hide characters it becomes less of a point.  It could mean you set up some funny infiltration hits with a ton of Raven Guard guys coming in, the 2 Slam lords making their moves, and then some Wolf Lords protecting your rear from some kind of back field tomfoolery.  This list is not going to survive the FAQ as I am sure will see something hitting these mixed detachments.  I am wondering if will see the Detachments themselves changing but who knows.

~Either way who doesn’t want to play with a ton of Jump Pack character nonsense? Can that FAQ get here yesterday…please.
