Why have the Orks turned Vigilus into a massive raceway? What Ork Clans are participating? And who’s in charge?! All that and more has been answered and GW has shown off some cool new art to boot – check out what’s going down with Speed Freeks!

The Warhammer Community has put out some new information and art about the WAAAGH! on Vigilus. We knew from other releases that the Orks had landed on the planet and had resorted to racing around the vast deserts in a twisted metal form of entertainment. But now we have some more insight as to what they have been up to and more.

When the Great Rift first ripped itself across the sky, it spat out an armada of ramshackle Ork craft that blasted through the cordon around the Imperial world and crash-landed in the desert wastes between Vigilus’ hivesprawls.

The Orks quickly discovered that Vigilus’ cities were protected by powerful force fields, making them impregnable to the greenskins’ assault. In their inimitable style, the Orks adapted and turned their attention to their two other favourite activities – scrapping amongst themselves and racing across the length and breadth of the planet.

Bored Orks = Race time!

Basically the Orks crashed landed on Vigilus after the Great Rifted opened up. They attempted to attack the cities but discovered the Imperial defenders had impenetrable shields. So they converted their scrap into vehicles and started racing around the massive desert – scrapping and fighting because it was fun. Hey, Orks are a pretty simple race and I can respect them for that.

It’s a Who’s Who of Ork Clans

GW has also filled us in on which Ork Clans are actually on Vigilus and it’s good to know that all of them have joined in on this whole “Mad Max” car culture vibe. So which clans?

Evil Sunz
Snakebites
Blood Axes
Bad Moons
Goffs
Deathskulls

That’s six Ork clans – coincidence? I don’t think so – This is more confirmation of what we’ve suspected would be the clans that would be included in Codex: Orks.

Who Run Ork Scrap-Town?

One more new piece of lore that was dropped was the Ork who’s running the show:

Most revered of all is the greatest of the Big Meks on Vigilus, Krooldakka. Master of the Scrap City known as Fort Dakka, and leader of the Waaagh! that fell upon the planet in the first place, this Speedlord Supreme rules over dozens of speed mobs and Battlewagon mobs. He cemented his position after an act of the purest kunnin’ that allowed the Orks to breach the Fortwalls that divided Vigilus, opening new racing routes across the planet and firmly installing him as the master of all he surveyed – even if he only surveyed it briefly, in a blur, as he sped past.

Krooldakka, Master of Fort Dakka! I hope we get a new Ork Character based on this one.

It’s worth noting that we know what eventually happens – The Genestealer Cult uprising on Vigilus distracts the Adeptus Mechanicus defenders who have to call in Space Wolves to help. Eventually, the shields do malfunction (probably due to issues caused from the Great Rift) and drop allowing the Orks to flood into the massive hive cities. Vigilus become a key warzone in the new Grimdark Universe as more and more races and factions get pulled into the on going war.

But for now, we’re going to get to see the conflict from the Ork side of things and get to race around the desert when Speed Freeks comes out…soon!

Time to get the RED PAINT out and go FASTA!
