Geekery: First ‘Hellboy’ Trailer Smashes Things Real Good

The first trailer shows off some big monsters, evil magic people, a distinctly British B.P.R.D.,  and some bloody kill shots we didn’t see in Del Toro’s movies. It’s got action, but does it have what the fanbase has been hoping for? See what you think…

The movie is being directed by Neil Marshall, who also developed the story that is true to the comics. Hellboy and BPRD fight against an ancient sorceress that seeks revenge against humankind; it’s an arc Mignola did with artist Duncan Fegredo. The monster hunter needs to be at his best for this battle.

It’s going to take a bit to get used to Harbour’s take on Red, but I don’t hate it. The sarcastic/cynical comedic aspect is there (maybe a bit too much), the cast is there, the scale is there, the CG at this point is iffy. I need some more convincing – bring on some more trailers and clips. I want to be excited for this, damnit.

The cast is led by David Harbour, and also stars Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane, Daniel Dae Kim, and Sasha Lane. Script was adapted by Andrew Cosby (Eureka, Haunted), and directed by Neil Marshall (Doomsday, The Descent).

Hellboy hits theaters next year on April 12th.
