Ten years ago this week – GW rolled out two of the biggest plastic kits the Grimdark had ever seen.

Today we roll the clock back 10 years to the week to see what all the GW fandom was going nuts about when we were all a bit younger.

It was January 2009, Apocalypse was in the air and GW was rolling out the BIG GUNS.

GW had just put up the Stompa and Shadowsword kit for Advance Order and all these  hi-res shots of the two kits. Everyone was freaking out about all the Baneblade variants you could build, if they could be magnetized, and most importantly – where would GW put out the many Apocalypse Datasheets for all the options. It turned out White Dwarf came sailing in the save the day on that one.

Shadowsword Combo Kit

The various Baneblade variants have had their ups and down over the last ten years, with a handful being popular today like the Shadowsword, while others like the StormLord have had better days behind them.

Ork Stompa

The Stompa was a really impressive looking kit once assembled, but has always lived in the shadows of 40K, never really hitting it’s stride. With its rebirth and lowered point values in the 8th Ork codex it is perhaps at its strongest point since it was released.

~Seriously I can’t believe this was TEN YEARS AGO! Were you on the hype bandwagon with these two kits? Are you still using them in your armies?
