WFB NEWS: Screaming Bell Advanced Orders

So now we get the real unveiling of this awesome kit. If you thought the Doomwheel was impressive, check out this baby.

Its available for pre-order here for $57.75 (along with sprue shots)

I want to have your guys take a look in particular at this shot of the Plague furnace censer, and the "in motion" effects the sculptors have pulled off, as well as the flowing energy trails from the various casters in this kit.

~It really is some phenomenal work there, of a type I've never seen GW try to pull off before. Maybe its the new abilities of computer designed cad systems, or maybe they are just getting batter as using the technology. In any case color me impressed. Can you guys think of any other kits that pushed the envelope for illustrating dynamic energy/motion coming out of GW? Lets hear it.

WFB: Doom Wheel Assembled

Hi guys,

Here is a set of 3 pics of the Doomwheel assembled provided by a BoLS Reader.

~These pictures can help to make sense out of the earlier sprue pics here. Enjoy!

WFB: Screaming Bell - Plague Furnace Sighting

Look what showed up overnight.

A very impressive plastic kit, and especially nice "in-motion" splatter and fume effects coming off the warpstones. Good scultping there.

There is also a gigantic Skaven Armybook summary in the Lounge here. Go check it out.

~I for one am happy to see the Skaven getting so much love after all this time. Between this and the Doomwheel, the ratmen are getting some top notch kits. I can already see the posibility of great conversions in either Fantasy or 40k for Nurgle stuff and that's just the low hanging fruit.

WFB: Skaven Doomwheel and Clanrat Sprues

~Fresh off the Warhammer presses, Enjoy guys! That Doomwheel is very cool, and has lot of conversion opportunities as well.

WFB NEWS: Reports from the Under-Empire

Hi Warhammer Fantasy and Skaven fanatics. You have been patient, but at last books are reaching thick padded hands in the Under-Empire around the globe. First eyewitness reports say the following:

Strength in Numbers
A new Skaven rule for increased leadership. All ranks beyond the first add to leadership to a max of LD 10. It is no longer limited to the first 3 ranks.

Life is Cheap
The only unit that has this is Poisoned Wind Globadiers. They can throw their globes into close combat.

Scurry Away
+1" to fleeing movement

Skaven Magic
Split between two domains: Ruin and Plague. Certain clan models get a certain domain. Almost all wizards can choose to take warp lighting instead of what they rolled.
Cracks Call: Casts on 11+ - Roll 4d6" draw a line. All models in that line make initiative test or are removed. Chariots make a 4+ save. Buildings are destroyed on 5+
The 13th Spell: Casts on 25+ - Target a unit within 24". Roll 4d6. Replace unit models with that many rats. If there is not that many, then replace only those that can be replaced. If there are more than that - they are destroyed. This is now a new unit under the casting players control.

Slaves
Cornered Rats - When the unit breaks it now deal wounds to all units within d6 inches, then is immediatley removed.
Expendable - Slaves still do not cause panic charges when they break.

Giant Rats
Can form ranks. Can get Leadership bonuses. In combat, the second rank also gets to attack.

Rat Ogres
Str 5, Toughness 6, 3 wounds Can form ranks. Get leadership bonus from ranks.

Warp Lighting Cannon
Shoots like a cannon. Roll the artillery dice for its strength. Misfire goes to chart. No longer has to flee as a charge reaction - cannot use grapeshot. Places small blast at the end of the shot resolving hits at strength rolled. Each hit is d6 wounds.

Screaming Bell
Plastic kit. Parts can be seen in the new White Dwarf on the watchtower.
The kit can also be used to make two other models from the book.

Doom Censer (a giant plague censer that is pushed around) The fumes cause harm to those in the area, and also cause problems for the crew.

Warpstone Catapult - A stone thrower - no special rules for the center of the template. Wounds all hit by template on 4+. If casualties are inflicted it causes a panic test.

Weapon teams
These are bought with a unit (clanrats, stormvermin). They must deploy within 3". If they stay within 3" of their parent, they get rank bonuses to their leadership, and also get 4+ ward save if within 3" of parent unit.
Warpfire thrower: Pretty much the same
Ratling gun - the dice now accumulate shots, not hits. Str 4 -2 armor.
Warpfire Mortar - treated like a stone thrower, using the teams or its parent unit's line of site. Wounds on 4+, Small blast.
Doom Flayer - kind of like a Goblin Fanatic. Big spiky ball that moves randomly and inflict hits + additional impact hits. Has 3+ armor save

~More as we get it. There are apparently some REALLY scary (and pricy) lords in the army book. Also, there is an uncanny family resemblence between Cracks Call and Jaws of the World Wolf don't you thing...

WFB RUMORS: The Skaven Approach

There are foul tidings on the fetid winds that emanate from Skavenblight: Chittering teeth in the darkness say:

The old Skaven book has the following CORE units:

Clanrats
Skavenslaves
Stormvermin
Swarms
Nightrunners
Giant rats
Poisoned Wind Globadiers

Now, with the exception of Globadiers, all can be put in ranks and they are all core.

Rumoured mount options are:
Grey Seer - Screaming Bell
Plague Priest - Plague Furnace, Giant Rat
Warlord - Rat Ogre, Giant Rat, Litter/Throne of some type
Mounts are only for characters and Nurglitch will be used a lot both as a Warlord and a Plague priest.

Ikit Claw will be a spellcasting nightmare, and good in combat to boot. He will be able to use all the Skaven spells or any of the normal 8 lores.

Deathmaster does indeed have a dagger in his tail!

SiN is in.
+1" flight remains.
Skaven may still decline challenges and use LD for the unit.
Life is Cheap is only for slaves.

Vermin Lord is back
Doom Wheel is back
Seer LD7
Assassin is a hero choice
Warplock pistol or muskets for all characters

Clanrats: 4 points.
Nightrunner: 7 points, no skirmish, one movement before the battle starts, two hand weapons and throwing stars included, LD:6 (9 with full ranks).
Stormvermin: 7 points with halberds and option for shields, S:3, 25 point magic items for the champion.
Rat swarms are non 0-1 and 25 pts each.

Rat Ogres: 40 points, plus 8 points for each handler. Frenzy, champion WS:4, A:4.
Master Moulder is a kind of unit champion with LD 6, no mixed units with Rat-ogres and giant rats.
Jezzails: S:6.
Gutter Runner: 6+ ward save.
Plague Monks: no poison.

Hellpit Abomination: is in and quite potent.
Plague Furnance: giant censor pushed by plague monks, impact hits and gas.
Warp-lightning Cannon: fires like a standard cannon with a 3" template at the very end of the line, strength still random, no armor save, D6 wounds, crew doesnt have to flee, LD 7, @90 points

5 different weapon teams
-Ratling
-Warpfire thrower
-Poisoned wind mortar, similar to globadiers
-Hand to hand weapon team with impact hits and additional attacks
-Warpdrill to tunnel for Eshin units (conflicting info)

13 different spells, 6 for Warlocks, 6 for Plague priests.
D3 warpstone tokens for every mage at the start of the game.
Warp lightning does only d6 hits and 1 still hits the caster
Spell to stop fliers
Spell for -1 BS to all enemy shooting

"13th Spell", casts on a 25+, cannot be augmented with bonus dice. Target unit suffers 3d6 wounds, no saves allowed. Any survivors are replaced with clanrats.

Plague Furnace is a mount for a plague lord/priest. It is said to works like a Cauldron of Blood, giving a bonus like poisoned attacks or frenzy to nearby units, whilst nearby Pestilens units gain either Hatred or possibly Stubborn. (conflicting info)

Plague Catapults are S:2, no armour save, 5" template and the target unit must take a panic test if wounded.

Storm banner is like the old one except it runs out at 4+. Which I think is probably better than before.

~As usual, standard caveats apply to all of this. Have fun you Skaven lovers.

WFB NEWS: Azhag the Slaughterer and Skaven

Hi guys,

A couple of news items from the weekend.

Skaven
Next up is confirmation via GW that the Skaven Armybook is headed our way this November. New Warmachines, monsters and charaters are promised. We've heard of several new models and plastic kits including Clanrats and others. The padded feet of Skavenblight are on the march!

Azhag the Slaughterer
First, the anticipated Azhag the Slaughter model has finally been released. This guys clocks in at a hefty $82.50 and is direct order only.

While his in-game stats leave a bit to be desired, I've always throught the model is great and extremely characterful.

~According to last weeks poll, about half of our readers play WFB, so what do you guys hope for out of the new Skaven book? Have at it guys.

40K, FANTASY RUMORS: Rats, Wolves, and Dwarves OH MY!

Rumors brought to the community by Warseer's: Screaming Manti and UberBeast

Lots of interesting chatter this weekend. Lets get right to it folks:

The general info we have been gathering from various sources points to the following armies hitting the shelves this year for Warhammer 40000 and Fantasy:

Skaven (Q3)
Space Wolves (Q4)

The talk from the tubes is that the Skaven may get rolled out officially at Gamesday UK in September, with a slight possibility of some Wolves on display as well.

There is talk of Forgeworld moving forward with more support for Fantasy, and apparently a comment was dropped at Gamesday-Baltimore where they said they were interested in doing complete armies with.....

wait for it....

Chaos Dwarves at the top of their list!

~Caveats on the Chaos Dwarf stuff and there is contradictory talk as to whether they would be reinforcing releases to the mystery "new army" from the main studio or something different altogether. As for the Skaven chatter, Games Workshop does like a big rollout for GD-UK, so I would not be surprised to see either Skaven or Wolves there. Oh how the plot thickens...

40K & FANTASY RUMORS: Q2-Q3 2009 Schedule Whispers

Hi all,

There has been a lot of talk out there regarding the great blackness of the release schedule after Imperial Guard in May (confirmed by Games Workshop as of now).

We are still hearing whispers and chatter that Q2-Q3 holds:

-Empire 2nd Wave
-Planetstrike
-Skaven
-A 40k related release

Its that mystery 40k one that has everyone guessing. Some say its Space Hulk, others say the Sons of Russ are on the way, while others point to a xenos release. We will keep digging, and report what come up.

~Standard caveats apply. Have at it guys

P.S. On a side note, War of the Ring looks like a mighty interesting product. If only someone at GW could contact me I would love to have a nice little chat about it :)

RUMORS: 40k & Fantasy 2009 Release Schedule

Rumors brought to the community by www.cargad.com (Spanish site)

Ok guys, this one has been making the rounds today so here it is. I will spare you the horrific babelfish translations and give you the basics as well as what we are hearing.

2009 Warhammer 40k & Fantasy
-April: Imperial Guard (we hear May)
-May: Fantasy Empire 2nd Wave (Empire Steam Tank, Greatswords, "Military Altar") (we hear June, and have no indication of a "Military Altar")
-July: Planetstrike (looks like its coming at LONG last)
-September: Space Hulk (with all new modern plastic termys, genestealers...the whole 9 yards) (we have no confirmation on this)
-October: Skaven (we hear August)
-November: An unnamed marine chapter (we hear Space Wolves)

2010 Warhammer 40k & Fantasy
Fantasy Candidates: Khemri...
40k Candidates: Tyranids, Blood Angels (possibly following on the coat-tails of Space Hulk), Necrons, Tau, Dark Eldar are reported to be almost finished, but pushed off due to their low interest level.

~EXTREME CAVEATS on some of this stuff guys. I would not read anything into any of the 2010 stuff for example as that is way,way far off. Also, we have seen confirmed release dates sent to retailers that don't exactly match these dates but overall match the releases.

The things to focus on are the near term releases such as IG, Planetstrike!!!!, and Skaven. We here at BoLS seem pretty confident of the Space Wolves for late this year. Once again, the real eye opener here is mention of Space Hulk, which would be great, but I will believe it when I see it. I'm not buying the Dark Eldar pushback either.

Have at it guys!
