To continue my counts-as army build I have caught the Iron Warriors design bug. I don’t know if I will finish this off completely as the machine virus has just taken hold so will see. I did a test model below to check out. I think it is from doing the danger stripes on my Word Bearers. But enough of making the internet mad with my “Grammar Wolves” – onto some Iron Warriors.

Now I know that people will get mad that this isn’t CSM but really there is not a single Tech Marine like choice in the codex. You could say Obliterators are pretty close but that is just a heavy support choice. So before anyone loses it and says this Goatboy can only make Space Wolf armies – just stop. Hell this isn’t even a Blood Angels army. This will be a Codex: Marines army. The choices in that book fit the best and I think it gives me the most Tech Marine style options I can fit into an army. Plus I already have ideas on how I plan on making things. So lets look at the list.

HQ: Master of the Forge, Conversion Beamer, Bike, Thunder Hammer – The main leader has to be a bad ass right?
HQ: Librarian, Null Zone, Gateway
Elites: Assault Terminators X 8, TH/SS X 8
Elites: Dreadnought, TWL Autocannons X 2
Elites: Dreadnought, TWL Autocannons X 2
Troops: Tactical Squad X 10, Meltagun, ML, Combi-Melta, Powerfist, Razorback, TWL Plasma/Lascannon
Troops: Tactical Squad X 10, Meltagun, ML, Combi-Melta, Powerfist, Razorback, TWL Plasma/Lascannon
FA: Attack Bike, MM
FA: Attack Bike, MM
Heavy: Dreadnought, TWL Autocannons X 2
Heavy: Thunderfire Cannon
Heavy: Thunderfire Cannon

So basically you have a back base with Guns and other nonsense. You hope to pop vehicles and cover them in Thunderfire Love. You got a heavy slow feel to the whole thing that gives the idea of a slow grind. Plus I can make cool robotic Thunder Fire Cannons. I might try to fit in another troop choice as I just think 2 is not enough. The bikes are in there as I can create some cool bike style robots that will help fit the theme. The librarian is going to be another Tech Marine with a warp gate design set up etc. I really wish I could find a way to truly fit in a Basilisk – but without any options in any marine book it just doesn’t fit. Again this is just a shell of an idea. Who knows if it is even viable.

Anyone have luck with Thunder Fire Cannons? I know the internet likes Auto Cannon dreads but I have never had the chance to mess with them. I just don’t want to add them to my multiple Wolf armies as I just kinda find them off putting in a Wolf Army. CSM has no way to field a Tech Marine like unit so I had to look elsewhere. It is a real shame as I think there would be some cool ways to create an Iron Warrior army with just a few tweaks. They are kind of a cult all their own so the cult marines make no sense. The powers of some do fit – but overall their theme just doesn’t seem to work. The attack bikes are place holders to get something mobile and a threat in there. I know the list will have no issues with light mech – but massed AV 13+ will be an issue.

But that is a thought and look the army isn’t Space Wolves – Yay! Next week I will talk about a testing Gauntlet you can create to see if your new list might be viable. The lists will be basic shells to test out against with some of the more popular armies out there.

Oh and here is the first Iron Warrior test. No idea where the head came from. I found it in a bits pile that I had bought off someone a few months ago. It looked neat so I thought I would try it on a marine body. It might be too small but I think it works pretty well. Plus it helps break up the overall metal feel of the body.
