40K SHOWCASE: Space Wolf Fellblade

Inspired by the other Fellblades shown on this site, I wanted to have a go at a Space Wolves version for my army. Lets take a look!

I felt they’d need something that would bring them closer to the fight and an assault ramp was therefore required.

I just love the image of soldiers clammoring over the top of the tank riding into battle like in old WW2 footage so having two longfangs providing covering fire as the terminators inside run out into the battle seemed an obvious fit. I had a spare metal heavy bolter to toss on for nostalgia too.

It was a giant pain to cut the hull to match on each side. Since the tracks are made of two panels plus guide bars for the wheels I had to cut every piece and reinforce it all with plasticard. I luckily had purchased some clamps a few months ago that work GREAT for holding drying models where you want the parts to stay. I’d recommend these to everyone and I think the package deal had 8 or so bar clamps of different sizes for 20 dollars.

In apocalypse I’m going to run this as a Banehammer with reduced capacity and BS 4. I’ve used it in an apocalypse game already and it seemed balanced (increasing the BS, changing the sponsons to TL las cannons and transporting terminators with an assault ramp) did not make it broken. It ended up losing its gun very quickly and having a 6″ max move made it very slow.

Most importantly, the top can be removed and it is a Land Raider! Everything fits underneath the cannon with no magnets required. Length and height are identical to a GW landraider. The width is about an inch larger. I’ve not run into any complaints yet but I suppose it is technically an advantage (though minor). With the price of models it would be hard for me to justify a model like this that could only be played in infrequent apocalypse games. This way though it will see the table much more often.
