Warhammer 40K

Welcome to another “This Week in 40K Podcasting,”
Here is this week’s top 5!
Highlights:  This week, the guys debut their new jingles for their 100th episode!  They are joined by Michael and they open up the show by announcing the contests they are running during the live recording of the show.  Then, the boys move on to discuss the latest in 40K news from GW, Forgeworld, and the Black Library.  Next, the gang reviews the new bits kit from Anvil Industries.  Then, Dagmire discusses his own fan fiction 40K book, ‘Rouge Trader’.  They then move on to discuss what they have been up to lately in gaming and the hobby.  Next up was ‘Sprue Peter’, where this time the guys discuss the evolution of the 40K hobby itself, from the static model range in the Rouge Trade era to the awesome multi-part kits of today!  To close out the show, the guys have an in-depth conversation on the evaluation of the Horus Hersey.   They discuss how the Hersey has was not part of the original story of 40K and how it came about and what was added by GW and the Black Library over the years.  This was really a class on the history of the story of 40K!
Opinion:  First I want to say congratulations to an awesome podcast!  The Overlords now join a very small group of 40K podcasts to hit the century mark, and that is quite an accomplishment.  Over the last nearly two years, the Overlords have taken some great strides in establishing themselves as one of the best 40K podcast out there.  From Black Library authors to GW game designers; these guys have had some of the best guest and interviews over the last two years.  The cast and crew have evolved the show over the last 100 episodes into one on my personal favorites!  Here’s to 100 more guys, you’ve done an outstanding job!  This episode was an outstanding tribute to the show, full of all of the things that make this a great podcast, including some history of the Horus Hersey I did not know!  Special note to my man Dagmire, release that book to the general public, it sounds awesome!  This week’s top pick, without a doubt!
Highlights:  This week the guys are joined by EvilEd (Yours Truly) to do this final in a three part Necron Codex Review.  They open up the show with ‘This Week in Gaming’ where the guys discuss their week in gaming, or lack of in this case.  Next, in ‘Pat’s Corner’, Pat talk to Doug Johnson from Table War, and they discuss his product and his experience at Adepticon in the team and GT events.  Pat then talks to James who took 2ndat the Bay Area Open with his Grey Knight list.  Pat then has part 1 of his interview with Stelek and they discuss his open letter to the Nova Open about terrain.  In the community segments, Pat talked to Mark from the Australian tournament Stout-Hammer, Chris Miller, the TO of the Celesticon 40K tournament, and Teras from Geek Nation Tours.  They close out the show this week with their 3rd and final installment of the Necron Codex review.  This week they cover the Fast Attack, Heavy Support, Dedicated Transports and Special Characters.
Opinion:  First, I want to thank the hosts of the 11th Company podcast for having me on the show, I had a blast talking 40K with you guys!  And despite the fact that my voice is on this show, this still was a great podcast.  Pat had some great interviews, my favorite being Stelek with some very interesting conversation on 40K terrain.  The fanale of the Necron Codex review was outstanding and informative.  Great work guys!
Highlights:  This week the gang is once again joined by the Mighty Tim and unfortunately the girls could not attend.  They open up their show with what they have been doing lately in the hobby and gaming.  This moved on to the latest in 40K and gaming news, which included new releases from GW, Forgeworld, and third party companies.  Next, Raymond from Grex’s Airbrush leads a segment where he describes the process of cleaning your airbrush.  Then, Criag from Bitz Boz and they discuss how to convert Sisters of Silence and his Chaos Lord.    Next, the Heretics talk about Dave ‘Floor Apocalypse’ event that recently had at the Battle Bunker.  This turned into some great advice on how to run an Apocalypse game and some tips for speeding it all up. Next was a series of interview the guys recorded, first with Chris Jones from the Food-Hammer charity event.  To close out the show, the gang has an in-depth interview with Gemma the organizer of Black Library Expo and Black Library author Graham McNeil!  Graham discusses how he got into writing for GW at first and then moving on to the Black Library.  He also hits on some of his favorite works, the joy of writing evil, and new stuff on the horizon.
Opinion:  I have to say this has to be one of my most favorite Screaming Heretics yet, filled with some great hobby advice.  I also enjoyed the conversation about their Apocalypse battle, as it gave me some insight to running my own.  And lastly, the interview with Graham McNeil with outstanding!  Don’t miss this one!
Highlights:  The guys open up this week’s show with their personal weeks and they discuss everything they did non-hobby related.  This then moved on their week the 40K and Ed played in a doubles tournament that was not so well organized.  Next up, the guys had a satire segment where they were ‘live’ at Adepticon.  They talk about their ‘experience’ there, what they did in some of the fake classes, and who they met while they were in Chicago.  They close out the show with a satire bit ‘Live from Adepticon’ where they talked about the ‘5 Senses of 40K’, where they talk about the sights, sounds, tastes, feelings and smells that remind them of 40K.
Opinion:  This is one of the shows I am sure to never miss.  While they may not always hit the top 5, they also provide an entertaining show, and this was no different.  I loved their bits ‘live from Adepticon’ and laughed almost the whole way through the show.  Great work guys!
Highlights:  This week the ‘Army for Noobs’ series rolls on, and this week the gang cover the Grey Knights!  They open up the show with some discussion on the latest round of rumors for 40K and 6thEdition.  Next up was their review of the Grey Knight Codex, from the Noob point of view.  They give a quick overview of how the army plays on the tabletop, some of the more common builds and tactics used by Grey Knight players, and some of their background fluff.  They then move on to a brief unit-by-unit review and discuss the more common units and builds that are running the tournament scene now.  They close out the show with their hobby updates, where they discuss what they have been doing in gaming and the hobby.
Opinion: The Preferred Enemies reviews of armies from the Noob point of view has really become a great overview of anyone interested in 40K!  This week’s show covered an awesome army and the gang did a good job preparing the new player to either face this army on the tabletop or play this army.  Outstanding work guys!
Highlights: This week the guys open up the show with an announcement of the contest they are running and their ‘Ard Boyz replacement tournament.  They move on to discuss their latest games played and the hobby progress they were able to accomplish, their commitments for the next two weeks, and Ken answers his ‘5 Questions for the Host’.
In the next segment, the guys discuss what it take to make a good game store, the traits of a store that makes you want to buy and play there.  To close out the show, the gang interview Daryl Dean, owner of The Game Room and part of the team that took Top Tactician in the Adepticon Team Tournament.
Opinion:  For those unfamiliar with the name, Ohiohammer is a great Fantasy Podcast that I also listen to, and The Second Founding is all about 40K!  This week’s topics were fantastic, talking about what they want to see in a local game store.  Store owners should take some notes on this one.  And the interview with Daryl Dean was great!  I loved the show this week guys!  The show is young, but has a promising future based on this episode, so check them out!
Honorable Mentions – All great podcasts that just missed this cut this week, but you should still check them out, in no particular order:
Signals from the Frontline – Golden Throne Primer Tournament and Eldar Rumors!
Jaded Gamercast – Episode 78 ***Explicit*** Orcs and Goblins, Flyers and growing 40K, and that is ‘Broken’
