Warhammer 40K

Welcome to another “This Week in 40K Podcasting,”
Here is this week’s top 5!
Highlights: This week the guys bid farewell to 5th Edition.  The boys open up the show with an open discussion about some of the rumored rules for 6th Edition that have been floating about on the inter-webs.  They also discuss the 6th Edition preorder products, the completion of the Necron model line, and everything metal is now Finecast.  Then they then move on to their Farewell to 5th Edition discussion.  They each discuss where they were at the beginning of 5th Edition, including what rules changed the game with the introduction of 5th.  They also discussed the web’s influence on the game, from blogs to podcasts, and how they furthered the meta of 40K.  They also discussed some of the rules that they really liked in 5th Edition, things that added to the cinematic feel of the game and what really made 5th Edition a lot of fun to play.  They then discussed what things about 5th edition they did not like, things that did not make sense or potentially broke the game.  They then talked about their favorite and least favorite codices that arrived in 5th edition and how some were not so great for the game.  They close out the show with what they are looking forward to in 6th and their hobby progress.
Opinion:  This was a really good run down of the edition that was 5th Edition 40K.  They hit on a lot of the topics that made 5ththe game that it was, from everything new and innovative to the system, to the few loophole and gaps in rules that allowed for exploitation and shenanigans. Overall, a great review and my top pick for the week.
Highlights:  This week, Ken, Steve and Mark are back and open up the show with some announcements and contests.  They then moved on to discuss their hobby progress for the last couple of weeks, and this moved on to some of the latest news and new release in the world of 40K.  In the main segment of the show, the cast discusses a rather heavy topic, and that is loss in 40K.  This does not mean on the battlefield, it is more losing friends due to death at a young age and what happens to those models?  Does your family know where to go to get full value for them or what you want done with them if you were gone?  This also moved on to a conversation about what 40K means to you, the community, your friends and local gaming group, and so on.  They also discuss what they get back from the hobby, if nothing else the commodity, the community, the fun, and all that we get from playing this game.   Next, the guys discuss insuring and protecting your collection with a variety of different products.  Next, Mark has an interview with Big Jim and they discussed what happen when Jim had his Soul Reapers army stolen out of his car.  They close out the show this week as Mark has an interview with Joe Fleisch, former host of the WaaghCast, and they discuss all of the steps involved in insuring your models/collections from thief and damage.
Opinion:  I have to say that this show really changed my gamer life, seriously!  After listening to this show, I had a conversation with my wife at the dinner table about what is to be done with my miniature collection should I die.  She now knows my wishes, and in the event she has to get rid of them, three friends she can go to who know they are responsible for getting my wife the most value they can.  I also placed calls to insurance companies to insure the value of my collection.  I really hate putting a tag on a podcast that you have to hear at least once, but I will make an exception in this case!  Every gamer should listen to this show at least once.  This was a great service to the gaming community as a whole, and an outstanding topic!  I am very impressed guys!
Highlights:  This week the guys open up the show with ‘This Week in Gaming’.  Neil and Pat are back from WarGamesCon and they discuss their experience at the event.  They start by discussing how the tournament was run, some of the missions, and bust up models thanks to baggage handlers!  They then move on to a round-by-round breakdown of each game, how well they did, and some of the finer points of each game.  They also had a gigantic amount of interviews that they recorded live at the event, with some background noise.  This included internet celebrities like ‘Best General’ Ben Mohlie, Frankie and Reese from Frontline Gaming, Justin Cook, Nick Rose, Russell Adams, Jay Woodcock of Da Boyz GT, Steve ‘Green Blowfly’ Turner from BeakyCon, Dave from the Eternal Warriors, Chandler from Feast of Blades, the famous Goatboy, Cowboy Kenny from the Heroic 28s podcast, Greg Sparks from Adepticon, Carl from the 19th Legion blog, and Alan Bajramovic who took ‘Best Overall’ with his Hoard Ork/Nob Biker list!  Next, Eric is back with ‘Tactical Terrain’, and he continues his conversation about trees and forest in the game of 40K.  How do you build and model them?  He also discusses some ‘other’ types of plants and foliage you can use for your Sci-Fi world terrain.  To close out the show, Pat has an interview with Ashley from the blog ‘Chickhammer’, and they discuss some of the issues she has had from the rest of the gaming world around her being a female.  Things like being disrespected treated different, being hit on, treated like she doesn’t know the rules, and so on.
Opinion:  Having not had the ability to attend the great event that was WarGamesCon, it was great to hear the review from the guys!  It sounded like an outstanding event and they covered it as well as only they can.  Not to mention they metric ton of great interviews with inter celebrities from around the inter-webs!  And they close out the show with yet another great interview with a great blogger and discussed a subject I feel very strongly about.  We have three female members to our gaming group and I can sympathize with Ashley and her issues.  I have to say if she ever played a member of our group, she would be treated as a gaming equal!  Great show guys!
Highlights:  This week’s show is basically dedicated to the club’s Third Birthday party.  This week there is only Steve, John, and Jason on the show and they are without their signature jingles.  They open up the show with the news and latest releases in the world of 40K.  This included the latest from the Black Library, Forgeworld, and quite a bit discussion about the upcoming 6th Edition.  The boys examine, in-depth, some of the more popular rumors and confirmed rules out there on the web and discuss the possible implications of these new changes.  Next, the guys discussed what they have been up to lately, and this involved the Overlords third anniversary event.  This was a random team Spearhead tournament event, and each of the staff take turns describing how it went for them and give some details on each of their three games.  This included a discussion about killing Ork Stompas, the Starship Trooper Genestealer army, and much more!  They close out the show with the first Primarch kicked out of the Big Brother house!
Opinion:  So, while the cast was a bit thin this week, and the jingles were gone (sad face) this was still a good show that I completely enjoyed.  It was comical at times how the guys danced around the rumors of 6th Edition, and their review of their event was second to none.  It sounds like they had a great time, and it was a lot of fun to listen too.
Highlights:  Dave is off to WarGamesCon, but Dan, CSwizzy, and the Baron lead the show, and open up with some news and what they have been doing in gaming.  GW is attending GenCon this year, and perhaps this could lead to a larger GW presence in the gaming world.  They then discuss the 6th Edition release, including the rulebook, the extras, and how much they all cost.  They move on to talk about some of the rumors and confirmations that are out on the net about 6th Edition.  This also turned into a bit of wish listing when the guys talk about what they would like to see in the new edition.  They also talked about the new Digital format of the Space Marine Codex and their hopes for the 6th Edition rulebook and future codices.  This also went into some of the fluff of 6th Edition and how it might advance in the new edition and the Black Library Horus Hersey books.  They close out the show with some Malifaux talk and an interview with Matt and Anton from Wreck-Age.
Opinion:  Glad to see the guys back to putting out shows regally!  This week show, like many other this week, focused mostly on 6thEdition rumors.  I think what I really enjoyed most was that for the first time in a long time, the guys really seemed to be excited about 40K once again, and this was a great thing to hear!  Yes, there were a few other games presented in this weeks show, but that is their format and really 6th Ed was most of the show!  Great work guys!
