Warhammer 40K
Welcome to another “This Week in 40K Podcasting,”

Here is this week’s top 5!

Highlights:  This week the cast is taking a close look at my absolute favorite Chaos Space Marine army, the Emperor’s Children!  This week’s show runs a bit long at almost 4+, but it is 4 hours of Slaanesh awesomeness!  They opened up the show with what they have been doing lately in gaming and the hobby.  This included an apology from Chase on his rant of GW in episode 51.  They then moved on to look at the latest news in the world of 40K, from Forgeworld to third party releases, new Dark Angels and much more.  Next up in the ‘Librarius’, the crew delve into the world of excess as the cover the story of the Emperor’s Children!  This included a detailed history of Fulgrim, the chapter’s rise from the point of extinction, their ethos and quest for perfection, and their fall to Chaos.

They also discussed some of the more noteworthy characters from the Legion, spending a lot of time on Lucius.  After a lengthy segment, the cast moved on to the ‘Armoury’ where they teamed up to create a couple of Emperor’s Children lists.  Jim and Kamil took on the 1850 point post Hersey list, and Chase and Christina built a 2000 point pre-Hersey list.  Then, in the ‘Briefing Room’, the staff answered some questions from their fans.  They closed out the show with the ‘Hobby Trenches’ where they discuss all sorts of ideas for an Emperor’s Children army, including tips for painting purple and pink, modeling, and much more!

Opinion:  I first have to say that I have absolutely loved the additions of Christina and Kamil to the show; they really have something special going here with the cast!  This could easily be my favorite episode of DSR EVER!  While I have a love for my Necrons and Tyranids, of all of the stories I have found most interesting in the lore of 40K, it is that of the Emperor’s Children and the fall of Fulgrim!  This was by far one of the most detailed and fascinating looks at this Legion. They covered everything you ever wanted to know including their full back story to Fulgrim, painting and converting the models, and list building for the Legion.  I highly recommend this one, I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Highlights:  This week the guys started their series on Codex Space Wolves!  They opened up the show with what they have been doing lately in gaming and the hobby.  Next, the boys did their review of Codex Space Wolves!  They started off with the Special Rules of the army and discussed a bit about how they have changed in this edition, including the Sagas.  They then move on to discuss the basic HQ choices, starting with the Wolf Lord and all of the awesome combinations he can have, and moved on to the greatness that is the Rune Priest, and then then rest of the choices.  They then move on to the Name Special Character, including Bjorn the Fell Handed, Logan Grimnar, and Njal!  They closed out the show by discussing the Space Wolves troop choices:  The Blood Claws and the feared Grey Hunters!

Opinion:  The boys march through the codices of 40K moved on to a Codex near and dear to my heart.  The Wolves are an army I put down after the Necron Codex dropped and I have been flirting with the idea of dusting them off, and this show has helped my decision making process.  As usual, the boys do an admirable job at looking at the first part of the Codex and reviewing it.  I especially like the looks at Codices as they have all really changed in the new edition.  I am looking forward to their next show!

Highlights:  The guys are back after an extended break for the holidays!  They opened up this week’s show with ‘This Week in Gaming’ where they covered what they have been doing over the holidays, including some Vassel 40K, games played, and more.  Next, in ‘Pat’s Corner’, Pat had an interview with Brandon from the White Scars blog and they discussed his competitive White Scars army.  Then, Pat talked to Kenny Boucher of Next Level Painting, and they talked a bit about his painting service and his new CSM list.  Pat also interviewed Neil Kurr and discussed his all bike ETC style Space Marine list.  Up next, Tactical Terrain Eric is back and this week he is looking back at the year that was 2012 and the trends in terrain and how it affects the game.

He also made a few bold predictions for 2013 and he believes we will see this year.  Next, Pat talked to John ‘Yakface’ Regul and they discussed the reasoning behind discontinuing the INAT FAQ with him at the helm.  They closed out the show with some interviews from the community and of course answering questions from their Facebook fans!

Opinion:  Man was it good to have the 11thCompany back this week, two weeks without is just too long!  While a bit of a shorter episode this week, it was still full of a lot of cool interviews.  This week I found that Tactical Terrain Eric’s segment was the one that stood out, as we have watch the evolution of terrain in 6th, I am looking forward to what GW has in store for this year.  Also, the interview with ‘Yakface’ was quite interesting.  The INAT has become a staple of my gaming group, and hearing his reasoning for stepping down from it made sense.

Highlights:  This week the guys checked in with another 4+ hour show!  They open up the show with ‘Operation Codex’ and this week Dave and BJ took a detailed look the Space Wolves and how they have changed in 6thEdition.  They first start by looking at how to build an effective Wolves list and they move on to discuss the rise of the Rune Priest and how good Grey Hunters are.  They then run down some builds of units that they believe will be effective in the new meta of 6th, including what Allies help this codex out the most.

Next, Leon was back and he and Dave got back to the ‘Forged in Battle’ segment and this week they discussed Forgeworld on the tournament scene and if it should be used or not.  They then take a look at some of the 40K Approved units out of Imperial Armour I: Second Edition.  Next up on the ‘Q&A-Team’, the boys answered some questions from the Facebook fans.  Then, the guys take a sneak peak at the new Dark Angels codex, starting with a look at the Deathwing and Ravenwing forces of the army.  They then took a look at the new models due out, especially the new Dark Talon flier and the Land Speeder Vengeance.  They also cover what rules and point costs there were able to pick up from the White Dwarf article.

Opinion:  This week’s show was quite good, filled with a wide range of great topics.  First, getting a double dip of Space Wolves coverage was a great treat for the week, and Dave and BJ did a really good job looking at the army.  And with the rise of more Forgeworld on the tournament circuit, it was a nice refresher on some of the top units one might see.  Check this one out!

Battle Plan Roll 6s – Episode 14 ***Explicit***

Highlights:  This week is the last show of the calendar year, and the boys opened up with what they have been doing lately in the hobby and gaming.  They then cover the goals that they have for 2013, including armies to be completed and hobby to be finished.  They move on to talk about the latest run of rumors out there on the internet; this included a very detailed look at the Dark Angels rumors.  In ‘Power Creep’ the guys discussed the Imperial Guard!  They talked about how the IG has changed with the new edition of the game, including rules changes, and what worked in 5thand is still working in 6th, and new tactics the guys have been using with the IG!  They close out the show with a bit of a mess around session where they talked about a variety of things from the Hobbit movie and some Black Library books they have been reading.

Opinion:  First, I need to apologize of the erroneous explicit ratting last time guys; it was typo on my part.  However, you did earn it this time J!  This show just released this week, so there were more detailed information out there on the Dark Angles, but considering when it was recorded, their coverage was pretty solid.  The gem to this show was their look at the Imperial Guard in 6th.  This I found most informative!

Special Note:  I wanted to give a shout out to a new video podcast out there called ‘the Bolter Report’.  While I normally limit myself to audio shows only, and shows that are dedicated to the tabletop game, this one was really well produced and covered a variety of topics, though mostly it was about the Space Marine game.  Check it out!
