Is it already time for the next wave of Privateer Press releases?
Plastic Tharn Ravagers! I think it’s finally time to put together that Kromac Tier I’ve always wanted to try. That’s because these new plastic units offer a pretty big amount of savings. This new box not only comes with a full unit of six Tharn Ravagers (as opposed to the previous box of four), but it also costs a buck less than the old box.
Here are all the bits. If you think they look a lot like last month’s Blood Pack, you’re not crazy. The kits share the same torsos and feet.
And speaking of those torsos, here’s a close up.
And here’s another few close-up of some of the bits that make these guys Ravagers. There are some cool swirly bits on the axe and lots of studs and stitching everywhere else.
Here’s a really close look at the top of the head. It shows the detail of the threads, as well as the runes carved into the horns. Unfortunately it also shows a pretty big mold-line.
I happened to have an old metal Ravager I acquired in a recent trade. The new sculpt has more cloth in front forming a full wrap-around skirt with no split down the middle. The new Ravagers also all have cowls.
There’s less cloth in the back, but the the cloth that is there has multiple layers that help add a ragged appearance.
Next up we have the Cataphract Arcuari.
Just like the Ravagers these guys are a re-sculpt of an old metal unit and come with two more miniatures than the previous incarnation. These guys offer some savings too. This box of six is priced the same as the old box of four. The similarities continue: the torsos and some other bits are also shared with another kit – although in this case it’s two kits. Our next new releases is the Troll Axer. He’s been available for awhile as part of the Trollblood Battlebox, but this is the first time you can get the plastic Axer all by himself.
Here are some of the shots I grabbed of the guy when I did the Trollblood warpack pictures awhile back.
These heads from the warpack depict the three troll emotional states: impassive, enraged, and angry. Of course it’s the top head we’re worried about since that’s the one from the axer box.
What I neglected to do when I took pictures of that warpack all those months ago was get side by side pictures with the new plastic and old metal Axers. Fixed that. As you can see there’s a fair amount of difference between the two kits. If you have one of the old metal Battleboxes, and you want a second Axer but you’ve been putting off buying it, now you’ve got an excuse. You’ll even save three whole bucks over the metal one.
Last for Hordes we have the plastic Argus. He’s another Battlebox warbeast available on his own for the first time.
He’s part of the Circle Warpack. I unboxed that warpack at the same time as the Trollblood one. Here are some pictures of the Argus I took back then.
