There is a prankster out on the internet who is having fun with the 40K community.  “Forewarned is Forearmed”  Here are the details.

Over the last week, two images have magically been discovered on 4Chan and made the rounds.

IG Hoax
Several days back we had this one:

Upon closer inspection were noted:

1) Exact photos that appear on the GW website for the Steel Legion.
2) All models have been “flipped” to face to the left.
3) “warped” irregular base sizes.
4) Silly unbelievable story accompanied the image about its origin.

Tyranid Hoax
Then late last night this one turned up:

Upon closer inspection the following points were noted:

1) There is a known 40k photoshop faker on 4chan (the Steel Legion hoax)2) The image used in that cover is available from the GW Tyranid codex iTunes store3) “Iyanden” is not aligned with “The Battle For”4) There is word of “Battle For Macragge” as the Tyranid based warzone book.5) A plastic Hierophant? The design studio shies away from just ripping existing FW models in plastic.6) Title font graphic treatment is different from past Warzone books (look at the Pandorax/Damnos covers below)

Our opinion on this is that we have a prankster that has a passing knowledge of photoshop out there on 4chan fishing – but luckily he’s not a very good digital artist.  I know the community is ecstatic with excitement and hope over new upcoming Warhammer and other products.  But please exercse caution with anything coming off of 4chan.  Not only is that source suspect under normal circumstances, please remember that we now have a known bad actor out there – looking to play on people’s hopes.
