Goatboy’s 40K – Ork-A-Go-Go Pt2. Mo Dakka Mo Dakka!

Warhammer 40K

Goatboy here to talk about the new Ghazghkull codex and all the awesome it contains!

Goatboy here again and I am about 2 weeks away from getting fully involved in testing out Ork lists. I have a tournament this coming weekend (ATC) so I have to keep my mind on Daemons as that is the list I plan on rocking out to with.  This still doesn’t keep me from dreaming about waterfalls of bullets, rokkits, and big rocks.

Today I want to utilize/abuse some of the new formations that came out of the Ghaz book.  Formations are here to stay so we need to get used to them and think about how they interact with the newish rules.  I think once Maelstrom missions start to get utilized pretty heavily in tournament rotations we will see more balanced/msu style lists become the norm.  Will see though, but big formations are going to be harder to shoehorn in as they lose Objective Secured and can eat up a ton of points.  Still we are a few months away before I see some major decisions made on how to run events.  We need more information like Orks love more Dakka.

Da Green Tide!
The first formation I want to chat about is the new and improved Green Tide.  They removed the restrictions and let you create a true tide of monstrosity.  I think this is one of the few formations I want to try as I have a crap ton of painted Ork boyz and one big unit of jerks just sounds right up my ally.  Hopefully I don’t face a ton of Wyverns but if I plan things right it might not be nearly as big of a deal.

To give you a heads up – the Green Tide is a formation of one Warboss plus 10 units of Boyz.  They gain the rules from the original Ork book formation – if the Warboss is your Warlord they can Waagh every turn after the first, roll 10 or more on the charge they get Hammer of Wrath, and don’t count for VP until everyone is dead in the unit.  I love this unit as you can upgrade your unit of boyz and your Warboss can only not take a Warbike.  This unit just screams for me to use as I can still take a CAD for my main – Objective Secured back force as I throw a chunk of jerks into an opponents face.  Plus it just feels 40k to have a roving band of lunatics running around saying Ere’ We Go!

This army shoots a crap ton of Rokkits.  I think you could shave some points dropping the Nobz in the order down to only 6 or so and get another Warboss in place of the Painboy.  Heck you could do some other Insanity too with adding in a Morkanaut or two to run behind this massed of guys.  It leaves you with very bad troop choices – but it could be fun.  Still this is a 100 boyz coming at you, Waaghing every turn and embedding so many Power Klaws it just gets nutty.  The Warboss will have to Challenge so it might be worth it to drop the Big Bosspole, get the Mad Doc, and then add the Special Cybork body to the Warboss to ensure he doesn’t get instant killed.

The crazy thing on this list is you want to get stuck in turn 2 so the Warbuggies are there to pop any small vehicles, get involved in corner fights and maybe grab an objective or two.  I just wish they came out with a new Warbuggy model.  That is my job next month – figure out a cool combo kit to make new Warbuggies.  I like some of the 3rd party stuff but they are a bit too expensive plus lack the missile pod needed.

Here’s another idea for a Ork army from the Ghaz book.  No formations just straight double Cad Fun.

This one looks fun as all get out.  You can fix your Morkanauts – you have a ton of Rokkits and two hard units to remove with a 4++/5+ FNP.  Both units are fearless and it feels like you might have enough to survive.  I really like Warbuggies but this list is struggling with all its HQ investments you have to drop some stuff out of there.  Plus those Morkanauts running around, healing Hull Points just sounds fun.

Look for some in-depth game reports coming as I figure this book out.  I am not down on it like some others because I see the silver lining with the sheer amount of bodies you can utilize as well as mixing in some of the new rules – CAD’s, formations, and other options.  I think the Mob Rule is kind of meh – but then I never left home without 30 man sized units of Boyz so losing some here and there isn’t the end of the world for me.

Until next week – hopefully you roll lots of 5’s and 6’s.
