Valdoren scanned the horizon for the umpteenth time. Nothing. Just the various shades of white and grey that seemed to make up the entire colour spectrum on this frozen moon. The air left a foul taste in his mouth but Sergeant Castiel had ordered the whole squad to don their rebreathers and initiate counter-chem rituals. Valdoren swore he could still make out the acrid smell of bloated corpses in an advanced state of decomposition. Rebreather malfunction perhaps? His training had emphasised trust in his own trans-human senses as well as pragmatic thought but both seemed to be at odds. His senses told him he smelt rotting death and that the background noise on the vox was actually the buzzing drone of countless millions insectoid wings. Valdoren’s rational mind knew these things to be impossible. His rebreather kit was sterile. The vox was encrypted and secure. Valdoren surveyed his surroundings. Grey and white nothingness greeted his prying gaze. Wait. “Smoke, Sergeant.” “Where?” Came the quick reply. Sergeant Castiel sounded unnerved but surely that was impossible. The grizzled scout sergeant had seen all the horrors of a galaxy seemingly intent on mankinds eradication. Today was a day of impossible things it seemed. Castiel peered at the nebulous black smear on the northern horizon. “Prepare to move out! Valdoren, boost vox gain to maximum! Repeat ident rituals and request urgent support for extraction!”
Valdoren looked at his Sergeant. As he followed he carried out his orders. Castiel met his gaze, “Smoke doesn’t travel against the wind… initiate now! move!”
The squad broke cover and dashed away from the now quite obviously moving pall. Valdoren’s vox was completely drowned out by the sound of buzzing insect wings, though he thought he could make out a droning, counting voice. “Vox is jammed Sergeant!” “Transmit anyway! Remember the Emperor and his sacrifice! Faith will be our strongest weapon and shield against this foe!” “Sergeant?” Valdoren quizzed. “Daemon filth.” Breathed Castiel. As if on cue, the pale white light of Noricum’s star dimmed as he watched the grey sky transform and take on the colour of a bruise. The diseased sepia light brought with it the sound of untold millions of flies as the clouds true form was horrifyingly revealed at last. Beneath the insectile miasma the brilliant white of Noricum’s snow turned to brown slush as the arctic environment was polluted by the foetid, shambling horrors that lumbered in the scouts direction. Valdoren made to mouth a warning but instead of his voice countless bloated plague flies erupted from his mouth. Valdoren ripped of his helmet and ran. They all ran. Even the wind had changed direction, as if the frigid air of Noricum’s atmosphere was fleeing the putrescent abominations that now blighted a reality too pure to bear their existence for long. Valdoren looked to the sky for salvation as he ran. He found it. Drop pods. Bearing the brilliant blood-red heraldry of the Sons of Sanguinius. Red armoured angels of retribution descending on wings of fire to bring salvation and death in equal measure. “Thank the Emperor!” roared Sergeant Castiel. “The Angels are here!”

What a sight! Another great battle board for this great classic battle!

The Raptor scout squad deployed in the middle of the battle field falling back onto the incoming Blood Angels forces.

The Blood Angels win the first dice roll of the game and opt to deploy their forces first. Steven starts off his deployment by placing the rhinos as close to the deployment edge as possible trying to give the falling back scouts some cover fire as soon as possible

David then starts to deploy his fantastic Nurgle army. He deploys two of his plague bearer squads his Daemon Prince and Nurge beasts very close to the deployment edge and opts to leave his Soul grinder further back to give him some perfect supporting fire. David leaves his Great Unclean one, blight drone and one unit of PB in reserve

Turn 1 (Blood Angels) Steven starts by moving both rhinos into key positions to try and help the falling back scouts the Death Company closely follow

Turn 1 (Nurgle) The Daemon Prince also moves forward onto the incoming Marines

Turn 1 (Nurgle) David starts his shooting off with a great hit on the Devastator with his Phlegm bombardment

Turn 2 (Blood Angels) The Angels are here! All of Steven’s reserves arrive after some good reserves rolling He deepstrikes his first unit of Assault marines onto the table and rolls a direct strike

Turn 2 (Blood Angels) Steven moves his Rhinos further up the battlefield very carefully placing them in key positions for both the marines to disembark and still give some nice cover to the rest of the army

Turn 2 (Blood Angels) Here is a better view of how the first couple of turns have looked

Turn 2 (Nurgle) The Great Unclean One Deep Strikes just behind the newly consolidated Death Company! What a sight!
