The new Rebel Bomber is going to cause pilots trouble – get ready to get SLAM’d!

Hello BoLS Readers! AdamHarry back with a quick one about the new K-Wing coming soon to a galaxy/table-top near you! If you haven’t seen the new ship FFG just released a preview of it. You may want to check it out. But in the mean time, I wanted to throw some of my quick thoughts about it at you. The first thing that jumped out at me was the new SLAM ability:

The SLAM or SubLight Acceleration Motor Action basically allows you to forfeit your attack to preform another maneuver at the same speed you were already going. What does this mean? Well if you were going 2 bank and you noticed you were in the firing arc of another ship, you could choose to do the SLAM action to get another FULL 2 speed maneuver instead of firing. Kind of like this picture:

Oh sure AdamHarry, but we’ve seen that done with Boosting and then Push the Limit + Barrel Rolling. What’s the big deal?” Well this is why you might want to read that FFG article because this pretty much blew my mind:

“…because your SLAM counts as a full maneuver, it allows you to drop your Proton Bombs in the middle of your activation, right before you execute your SLAM.”

That’s right – you can pretty much do what bombers have always needed to do: Move, BOMB and MOVE!

This also flips one of the core mechanics on it’s head. Suddenly a Pilot Rank 2 who gets to move first can drop bombs after getting in to the position it wants AND get away. This whole move-bomb-move mechanic is going to shake things up quite a bit and I’m excited to see what else you can pull off. And that’s just with Proximity Mines, Seismic Charges, and Proton Bombs – I haven’t even fully digested the nasty you can pull off with the NEW bomb types.

This does 1 damage, 2 Ion tokens, and denies Actions by the unfortunate victim.

These deal 2 stress to every ship within range 1

I’m suddenly very excited about the whole K-Wing thing. If I’m being completely honest, I was apathetic at first. There were a few other ships I wanted to see on the table before the K-Wing but now… I want to build a bomber list! And if you’ve kept up with X-Wing at all you know that’s not something you hear a lot. And while I’m at it here are the pilot cards, too:

Esege’s ability is pretty amazing combined with the Advanced SLAM modification. And Miranda combined with R2D2 is going to cause table flipping across the land.

There are a ton of things to write about – but FFG covered a lot of that in their article. I HIGHLY recommend you peruse it at your leisure!

K-Wing Expansion Pack $19.95

K-Wings suddenly got a lot more interesting to me as a predominately Rebel Pilot. However I know the Imperials are going to be getting a similar treatment when their TIE Punisher coming soon…

What do you think Pilots? Are Bombers going to get their day in the sun or are they just going to be a flash in the pan? Let us know in the comments below – AdamHarry, OUT!
