Alkemy

A small and devoted group of Alkemy fans need your help to bring the game back from the dead.

I stumbled across Alkemy many years back while watching coverage of GenCon on Youtube. I thought that the mechanics looked pretty fun, but the miniatures just didn’t do it for me. Unfortunately, Kraken Editions ran into major financial issues and it looked like Alkemy would fade into obscurity as yet another failed miniatures game…Until earlier this year, when a new company named Alchemist Miniatures announced that they had acquired the game and have been working hard since late 2013 to give it a new lease on life. Now these devoted Alkemy fans-turned-developers have taken to Kickstarter with Alkemy Blitz, a campaign that seeks to revive the game with a revamped rule set and new factions.

Alkemy2

The primary goal of this Kickstarter is to create two new factions to go with the game’s rules reset: The snake-like Naashti and the seafaring Utopia. While these two new factions are taking center stage, you do have the option of getting starters for the existing factions of the Khaliman Republic, the Aurlok Nation, the Kingdom of Avalon, the Jade Triad, and the Walosi Clan. Other goodies you can get during this Kickstarter include play mats, fancy objective markers, and the obligatory Kickstarter exclusive miniature, the feline Emissary of Khaliman Republic.

Alkemy3

Alkemy is an objective-focused 28mm fantasy skirmish game designed to be played with 6 to 10 miniatures. The €55 pledge will get you either the Naashti or Utopia core set, which includes the faction starter, the revised rulebook, corresponding stat cards, the Kickstarter exclusive miniature, and all the other accessories you need to play, like Alkemy‘s custom dice and tokens. The €115 pledge is perfect for two players and includes both core sets and a fabric play mat of your choice. The campaign is already fully funded and, at the time of writing, has smashed through most of the currently announced stretch goals.

Alchemist Miniatures hopes to have this new version of Alkemy back in stores next year. I’m still not sold on the game’s miniatures, but I do wish them luck in reviving a game they are clearly passionate about.

Does anyone here play Alkemy? Are you looking forward to the game’s revival?
