Come see the latest pricing & schedule information for Games Workshop’s upcoming Tank Shock Organized Play Campaign.

The Tank Shock series will run for three months with a suggested four events that gamers can play. It is more for beginning stores, but veteran stores will do well with it as too. Each store that buys the kits ($500 or $1000) will also get a deep discount of an extra 15-25% OFF vehicle kits for Warhammer 40k to help sales in store for the events.

There are a couple of key things to look at here:

  • The campaign itself is setup to run for 3 months and these kits have a suggested 4 events. What’s unclear is if that 4 events per month (for a total of 12 events) or just 4 events spread out over 3 months.
  • The price point of these kits is $500 or $1000 – BUT the store gets a EXTRA 15-25% off vehicle kits for Warhammer 40k. This is a very interesting play from a business angle. For some stores that are large enough it will be a drop in the bucket and they can easily make-up that $500 or $1000 by purchasing enough product at a discount to offset that cost. They still end-up spending a ton of money ON products however (which is a win for Games Workshop).
  • It’s interesting that they mention this is more for beginning stores vs veteran stores – is that because this will allow them to “stock-up” on kits with a deep discount or is there something else at play?

It really sounds like this entire program is designed to extend the hobby into new stores and areas – and hopefully grow the player base AND sales. It’s a good move but I’m still not sold on that $500-$1000 entry for retailers…Most other major company’s Organized Play Systems are much cheaper than this for the retailer. So it’s an interesting experiment by Games Workshop and we’ll have to see if the retailers decide to jump in to Tank Shock.
