Geekery: Sci-Fi London 48 Hour Film & Fiction Challenge

The pressure of time limits can create some amazing things…

The challenge was given in February: On Saturday morning entrants receive a title, a line of dialogue, and a description of a prop. Exactly 48 hours later, they hand in a completed 5-minute science fiction film or a short story. Every group/writer’s prompt, title, and dialog is different.

Finishing this race is an accomplishment in itself, but it has produced some great work. Gareth Edwards – director of Rogue One – got a big kick start from his winning 2008 entry.

Here are a few films from the shortlist that was announced yesterday:

This last on is NSFW due to language… but it’s worth coming back for.

This year they added a fiction contest with the same constrictions… 48 hours, everyone gets a set of prompts, and 1500 words instead of 5 minutes. There are some great tails in the shortlist.

More of the shortlisted films here and stories here.

Do you think you could complete either of these challenges?
