Warseer, one the oldest wargaming forums is down for days and faces a murky prognosis.

Warseer, one of the most venerable of tabletop wargaming communities has been down since July 20th.  Once the biggest and most popular online communities for Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40,000 founded in 2005 after the death of it’s predecessor Portent.net, the site has been struck by multiple lengthy outages over the last several years, the last one only a handful of months back in early 2016.

Wintermute, head moderator of Warseer, announced that the venerable forum was hacked in some manner and has been taken down.

He offered no ETA on it’s return and left the possibility of it’s return open.

Yes we have been hacked/attacked and WarSeer has been taken down. As to what we do next, we are not sure.

There has been no word word since then from official Warseer channels.

I’m sure the Warseer community is eager for a forum fix, and luckily for them, there are several communities out there who can take them on in the interim.

The internet is a very different place since the heydays of forums ten years back, now under relentless pressure from social media. Still, forums provide a unique experience and longer-form opportunities for conversation than are easily available in the A-D-D rapid fire post universe of Facebook and Twitter. We hate to see any forum in our community go down.

~Share your thoughts on Warseer in the comments below.  Time will tell if the forum can make a triumphant return or will slip below the waves into the annals of internet history.
