Join us as we take a look inside the new Shadow Caster Expansion Pack for Star Wars: X-Wing!

Hey BoLS Readers! As you’ve probably guessed we’re back from GenCon and going full steam. We had a few bags full of goodies from Fantasy Flight Games’ Star Wars: X-Wing. We already covered the first 3 ships from Wave 9 and now we’re going to cover the final ship – The Shadow Caster Expansion:

Now, we’ve covered this ship before. We’ve talked about some of the things it can do here and we also had a more in depth look as well. This ship is poised to mess with your opponent and the battlefield in new and interesting ways.

After taking a look at the full contents my initial impression is that this is a large, fast ship. It has some tricks to move that mobile arc around and ways to toss out tractor beam tokens and stress to various targets. It’s technically called a Lancer-Class Pursuit Craft as the Title card names the ship the Shadow Caster – which is probably why this ship is so fast!

The Gyroscopic Targeting card for this ship allows you to re-orientate the Mobile Firing arc at the end of the combat phase if you executed a speed 3-, 4-, or 5- maneuver. At first glance that doesn’t seem that great because it happens at the end of the phase…but that just means you have to plan a turn ahead. That also means that if you have Ketsu Onyo as the crew member you can adjust that arc because of the speed and then force an enemy ship to keep those pesky tractor beam tokens.

Overall, It’s a nice addition to the Scum fleet and I’m looking forward to seeing what creative ways players will be able to utilize this new ship.

The signature starship of the young and ambitious bounty hunter Ketsu Onyo, the Shadow Casterwas agile and powerful, but lightly shielded, trading heavy ray shielding for speed. Both the ship and its pilot make their way to X-Wing™ in the Shadow Caster Expansion Pack, along with three other pilots and twelve upgrades that afford you myriad options for outfitting your Shadow Caster with different crew and illicit upgrade combinations. Finally, the ship boasts a mobile firing arc, which offers some of the advantages of a turret, even while preserving a distinctive – and more point-efficient – play style.
