Planetary Onslaught is hitting shelves this weekend – come take a look inside this new Campaign Supplement for Warhammer 40,000!

Narrative players get ready for your next campaign book because Planetary Onslaught has everything you need to run a campaign from the initial invasion all the way to brutal street-to-street fighting!

I have always been a sucker for a good campaign and Planetary Onslaught has the right structure to do all of that. This book has rules for what was formerly Planetstrike, Stronghold Assault and Cities of Death in an all-in-one format. It has lots of new missions as well as warlord traits and stratagems for both attackers and defenders. I don’t know how appropriate those will be for you Tournament Players out there but if you’re into the narrative games this is going to be an awesome resource to have.

This book also has a format to show how to link all those missions together into one cohesive campaign that ties the invasion together. This new Planetary Onslaught campaign is a super easy way to run a narrative campaign that revolves around a single planetary invasion. You could expand this out to involve as many planets (and players) as you would like as well. This would be a really neat way to structure a “league” play system for a group of gamers.

Now, if you are a Tournament Player and you’re thinking, “okay, I don’t really care too much about campaigns – what’s in this book that I’ll like?” That’s a fair question! It’s got all the fortification rules included.

I would like to point out one thing that is missing from that list – the new Haemotrope Reactor. Those rules may end up on GW’s website at some point, but we did get a peek a them earlier. They also come in the box:

Also let’s not forget this book also comes with all the rules for the Tidewall Rampart in it’s many flavors. I thought that was a nice touch. Now if we could just get some other xenos terrain…

Overall I’m pleased with this book. I would have liked to see the new Haemotrope Reactor included but I’ll live without it in the book. The rest of the contents really appeal to the narrative player in me. I am getting the itch to try a massive Planetary Onslaught Campaign out just to see how it goes from start to finish. If nothing else, it’s a great change of pace from a typical pitched battle game of 40k.

Invasion and conquest in the 41st Millennium
Across the vast galactic expanses of the Imperium of Man, a desperate war of survival has raged for more than ten thousand years. Countless savage battles are being fought at any given moment – and none rage more fiercely than those fought between an invading army and a desperate defending force.

The Book
The 112-page hardback supplement Planetary Onslaught brings together and updates the rules for 3 Warhammer 40,000 expansions – Planetstrike, Stronghold Assault and Cities of Death – and presents them as stages of planetary conquest. Play them individually, or string the three different sets of rules together to create an epic campaign that tells the story of the fate of an entire world! One player assumes the role of aggressor, and the other defender, playing through the three phases with additional rules tying the whole campaign together into a single, brutal Planetary Onslaught.

There’s also a huge array of updated datasheets for Fortifications and Fortification Networks, new Siege War missions, and full campaign trees for Planetstrike, Stronghold Assault and Cities of Death games.
