The Tabletop Spotlight is on Index Chaotica Apocrypha – Are you ready for Chaos?

Our friends at Dragon’s Lair Comics & Fantasy brought over a great addition to any Warhammer Fan’s Library – the Index Chaotica Apocrypha:

More than just an art book (although it has some amazing artwork in it) this book is a collection of history from the early days of Chaos. It goes back to some very early White Dwarf magazines, previous editions of 40k and also explores some of the “other” games in the universe – like Epic!

For a lot of fans this book will be a stroll down memory lane. Heck, the articles and artwork that convinced you to get into the hobby may be in this very book! I know there are some things in there that inspired me in my early days of playing 40k. For future generations of players this book is a fantastic glimpse into the early days of the hobby. The original descriptions of the Traitor Legions and Chaos Gods are in this book. It’s a great way to look back at those Chaos Roots and to see how far we’ve come.

Now, if you still have your old White Dwarf Magazines or your Rogue Trader era Realm of Chaos books (like we do) then you might not need to pick this one up. Okay, even if you DO have those books you’ll probably still want to pick this one up. For the price, it’s a great deal (and it will probably be in much better shape than your old books). The Index Chaotica Apocrypha may be an appeal to nostalgia for a lot of old vets but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth your money.

Index Chaotica: Apocrypha $35

A fascinating look at the history of Chaos in Warhammer 40,000, the 136-page hardback Index Chaotica: Apocrypha brings together a collection of the most ancient and heretical texts the galaxy has ever laid terrified eyes upon. These articles, taken from early issues of White Dwarf and previous editions of Warhammer 40,000, include the original descriptions of the Dark Gods of Chaos, as well as the Daemons and Traitor Legions who serve them. You’ll discover the origins of this insidious threat to Mankind’s survival, and see how their miniatures, wargear and gameplay have evolved in the decades since their unveiling.

Amongst the articles included:

– early accounts of the Horus Heresy, the Traitor Legions and Warp Space;
– original depictions of the Daemons of each Chaos God from the Realm of Chaos books;
– classic fiction establishing the Long War fought by the followers of Chaos;
– accounts of the Daemon Engines of the Dark Gods, from White Dwarf;
– the original descriptions of the Traitor Legions;
– concept sketches, early artwork and first mentions of infamous characters, such as Fabius Bile and the Traitor Knights of House Devine;

and much, much more! This is an essential addition to the collection of anyone interested in the lore of Chaos in Warhammer 40,000.

The collected visions of chaos from the beginning…a tome worth reading!
