This update had some interesting balance tweaks and more info on the upcoming campaign. As far as balancing – they are pushing an early draft pass over to their testing server (The UAT). There are lots of things going on and they are wanting to get player feed back. They are testing things like wargear costs, wargear related to survivablity, armor, trinkets and base stats for classes. These are not final values – they will probably end up getting reworked multiple times and that’s where player feedback comes.

For the Campaign play Brent and Nathan go into what is going on behind the scenes. There are multiple things going on but the basics are that the system is designed to reward players (and their faction) for actually pushing to win. It’s not just about playing the game but actually winning as well. All the factions can end up with rewards as well so this system is not a zero-sum game. If you want to learn more about how it all works that discussion starts around the 14:00 mark.

The Free-to-Play (F2P) discussion starts at the 18:18 mark. The game will eventually re-introduce a F2P model. If you’re already playing (because you purchased the game) you won’t experience any major changes, ideally, you’ll just have more folks to fight. And you’ll probably get some things “to make you happy.” They weren’t ready to announce how it all will work – and they reiterated the game will not become “pay-to-win” either.

I’m guessing it’s going to be some type of “pay for access to specific classes if your account is a F2P account” type of deal. For current players, since you’ve already paid, (I’m guessing) you’ll just have a “premium status” and have access to everything already. The market place (for cosmetic changes) isn’t going away either.

As always, if you want to jump in and battle in the 40k setting you can pick-up your copy of Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade today on PC.
