Star Trek Ascendancy is finally getting those new expansions–the Ferengi and Cardassians should be available this month, followed closely by the Borg.

Star Trek Ascendancy is a fantastic 4x game set in the Star Trek Universe, as the name implies. Some of you may recall that we got our hands on Ascendancy at GenCon and already did a full unboxing and overview. So why are repeating? We’ve just got word from Gale Force 9 that the player expansions, long delayed, are finally about to come out, including a new one. In the next week or so we’ll see the release of the Ferengi and the Cardassians, as they were the first intended to be released, but then shortly thereafter we’ll have an encounter with the Borg.

These new factions should add a lot more life to the game, which is already a lot of fun and offers a ton of replay value. We’ve talked at length in our previous articles about why we liked it, but as a quick recap, it has one of the most inventive galaxy exploration mechanics with its space lanes, as well as offering multiple paths to victory for the various factions within the universe. Here’s a look at the first two, followed by a closer look at the Borg.

The Borg

Here we have a look at their box (and cube). Followed closely by their console and cards.

From what Gale Force 9 has told us, you should be seeing the Cardassians and the Ferengi by mid-August, with the Borg expected to make First Contact in mid-September. So if you’re looking to add a little bit to your extant game of Star Trek Ascendancy, or if you’ve never tried it, this is the perfect time to get in the game. It’s a ton of fun, and if you’re a Star Trek fan, it’s got a lot of that classic flavor that we all know and love.

It’s a good thing they released more than one new expansion, otherwise you’d never hear the end of “There are FOUR lights” jokes.
