Celebrate Labor Day by settling those rules arguments once and for all.

The end of Summer is upon us. Soon the leaves will trade their greens for vibrant golds and crimson and brown. School begins again, and little Susie, who it seems just yesterday was learning to walk, is headed off to the fourth grade. They grow up so fast–next thing you know it’s off to college and a promising career in being a horse astronaut.

But for now, it is the beginning of September, and with it,  a new collection of Sage Advice, and updated errata are available for download on the Wizards home page. These are mostly clarifications for everything from the PHB to Volo’s Guide. You’ll also find a collection of monster lists where they’ve been organized by CR for your encounter building convenience. So check them out, and maybe take some time to have a conversation about that horse astronaut thing.

The Sage Advice Compendium gathers official rules answers in one PDF. This month, I’ve revisited some old answers in it and expanded or clarified them. The compendium also includes links to the new errata documents.

You can see which sections of the compendium are new or substantially revised by looking for any paragraph in a shaded box.

If you have a D&D rules question, please reach me on Twitter (@JeremyECrawford), where I answer questions every week. Many of those answers eventually end up in the Sage Advice Compendium.

For the most part, these aren’t major game changing updates–though we do get a clearer pixie of the intention behind the rules, and things like the order of operations for various interactions–and then of course there’s this tidbit:

Druid
What happens if a druid wears metal armor? The druid explodes.

But, this is hardly the only document to get an update. As mentioned, you’ll find errata for Volo’s Guide, Out of the Abyss, and the SCAG.

We’ve made corrections to the latest printings of three D&D books. You can find their errata documents at the following locations:

Out of the Abyss

Sword Coast Adventurer’s Guide

Volo’s Guide to Monsters

The errata document for the Player’s Handbook has been updated to capture a few changes that have been in print for a while but were overlooked in previous versions of the errata. Specifically, the document now includes new wording for the rule on long rests and for the find steed spell. You can find the document here:

We make corrections to new printings of D&D books and let you know about the changes for the sake of clarity and thoroughness, not because we think DMs should fret about every alteration. If you’ve already been enjoying these books, we recommend you pay attention only to the revisions that you think will enhance your enjoyment of the game.

Finally, there are the Monster Lists, which are incredibly helpful. It’s the index we’ve all been waiting for.

Every campaign features monsters—often lots of them! D&D Monster Lists catalogs all the monster stat blocks that appear in the Monster Manual and Volo’s Guide to Monsters. The monsters are listed by creature type and by challenge rating to help DMs populate their adventures.

Sage advice is also handy if you’re trying to figure out how to season your poultry.
