The Blightlords are here. We open them up, unleashing virulent disease upon the BoLS crew, but some cool minis for you.
Maybe we should call this an unpoxing video–although that makes it sound like we aren’t succumbing to the festering disease and bloated, pestilence-strewn flesh of some of the most adamant of Nurgle’s champions, which we very clearly are. The long and the short of it is these models are gross but gorgeous, and we were impressed by both the amount of detail, character, and even customization that you could give to each model, and now both Adam Harry and I are fairly certain we’re poxwalkers.
The Blightlords definitely make an impact on the table. We’ve talked about their unit options and how easily they can spit out disgusting amounts of firepower, which is both metaphoric AND literal in this case, owing to the preponderance of blight weaponry. And if you can get them into melee, deal out some incredible hurt–every melee option they have is a plague weapon, which means that you’re rerolling 1s when wounding folks, and they can pack some pretty mean weapons in there.
You can go here for a writeup on their rules, but let’s talk a little bit about how gorgeous these miniatures are.
There’s a ton of characterization packed into the Blightlords. They’re elite, and they wear special armor, which might be why GW has clearly spent a lot of time designing these guys up. There are a few different transformations that are/have happened here. You can see the corrupting influence of Chaos, whether in the living intestines that have ruptured through the power armor in places, or in the Blightlord whose cataphractii armor and occupant both seem to be undergoing a Metamorphosis.
There’s so much detail though. Whether it’s the spikes, or the hairy tendrils, or the chainmail that is garbed on some of the armor–there’s a ton of little details that really bring out what these guys are all about. Slow moving, but unstoppable soldiers, completely corrupted by Chaos, who can take just about anything you can throw at them.
And accompanying these terminator-armor clad champions, is the terminatinest champion in the Death Guard army, Typhus, Herald of Nurgle.
Typhus is a beauty of a beast. He very much is at home with these Blightlords–
–and you can read more about Typhus and how he works here.
Blightlord Terminators – $70
Blightlord Terminators are relentless and unstoppable, elite Death Guard warriors forever bound to Cataphractii armour. They stalk forward with guns blazing, mercilessly mowing down rank after rank of enemy. Combi-weapons, plague spewers and blight launchers add to the fusilade, reducing infantry and vehicles to slop.
This multi-part plastic kit contains the components necessary to assemble a unit of 5 Blightlord Terminators. Resplendent in their cracked, rotting Cataphractii shells, they are bursting with squirming tentacles, covered all over with pustulent signs of Nurgle’s gifts: spikes, boils, grinning toothed maws and vile respirators all feature heavily.
Each comes armed with a combi-bolter, and a choice of either a balesword or bubotic axe – there are some other, equally unpleasant weapons included, meaning one model can replace their combi-bolter with either a plague spewer, reaper autocannon or blight launcher, and another can carry a fearsome double-handed flail of corruption. The Champion of the unit can take combi-weapon upgrades; there’s a plasma, flamer and melta variant available. There are 8 variant heads available, a mix of helmeted and bare. None of them are especially pleasant to gaze upon…
The Blightlord Terminators come as 64 components, and are supplied with 5 Citadel 40mm Round bases.
Blightlord Terminators are available for pre-order now, and should hit shelves this weekend!
