There are no tears for the dead with the Ghost Warriors of Iyanden are on the prowl – check out the first Craftworld Focus on The Wraiths of Wrath!

Craftworld Iyanden was once one of the most populous Eldar Craftworlds. But after a brutal invasion by Hive Fleet Kraken their population was brought to the brink of extinction. Now, the remaining Iyanden Eldar must rely on the dead to fight for them. The Wraith Constructs are a key feature of the Iyanden army and they have some benefits for fielding a themed force.

Iyanden is a craftworld renowned for its tragic history and its serried Spirit Hosts, making heavier use of ghost warriors than any other. Wraith constructs will still be an important part of Iyanden armies, but their Craftworld Attribute is versatile enough to allow for a range of powerful builds focused around elite units of all kinds, including tanks and aspect warriors.

Craftworld Iyanden Attribute

Stoic Endurance is a great attribute to have for the Iyanden. It represents their determination to survive and fight on. In game terms this one has two effects that will impact tabletop. The first part of this rule says that “A unit with this attribute can never lose more than one model as a result of any single failed Morale test.” That’s great for your big guardian squads – load them up to full sizes of 20, hit them with a few buffs in the psychic phase, and don’t worry about losing more than a single model in the morale phase.

The second part of this rule is great for your big Wraith-constructs. “If a unit with a damage chart has this attribute, double the number of wounds it actually has remaining whenever you are consulting the chart to determine it’s characteristics.” According to GW that means you’re going to have to do a whopping 17 wounds to a Wraithknight from Iyanden before it’s going to even notice a dip in combat effectiveness!

Games Workshop also teased a few other powers to go along with the book. First off we get a look at a new Psychic Power: Empower/Enervate

This is a new “dual named” psychic power. From the text, you basically get two powers for the price of one slot! For example you might only be able to use one power a turn, but you’ll be able to manifest Empower/Enervate and choose one of it’s effects – which basically gives you double the options of other psychic powers – eat your heart out Magnus!

These powers look to have a a mirror power – one buffs a friendly with and the other debilitates an enemy unit. I like the concept and can’t wait to see what other powers the Eldar have cooking.

We also get a closer look at a new stratagem as well: Guided Wraithsight

This ability grants an increased range of an Iyanden Spiritseer’s Spirit Mark ability from 6″ to 12″. It also also allows friendly Iyanden Wraith Constructs units to re-roll all failed hit rolls instead of only hit rolls of 1.

Based on that text, The Spiritseer’s Spirit Mark ability sounds like it’s a 6″ Aura ability that gives friendly Iyanden Wraith Constructs re-roll 1s to hit. Which is good to know!

GW also dropped a few more hits in their full article HERE. Below is a quick summary:

  • Spiritseers are 45 points (we’re assuming base).
  • Warlocks are 30 points (again, assuming base).
  • Wraithblades/Wraithguards and Wraithlords all got a bump in Toughness by 1 point.

  • There will be 5 new Craftworld Attributes to choose from.
  • Ulthwé are up next!

Get ready to see some bright yellow Wraith-constructs marching to war! Iyanden is on the prowl…

What do you think of the Ghost Army? How about those Wraiths, eh?
