Days from retirement, one Clone Trooper is getting called back into the fight! It’s a new Preview for Dawn of Rebellion!

Fantasy Flight Games is teasing some of the new classes and race options that will be available in Dawn of Rebellion. Let’s dive in a take a quick look:

As the first sourcebook of its kind, and one focused on a different point in time than presented in the core rulebooks, Dawn of Rebellion is all about context. This context informs what connections the player characters will have to each other and their galaxy, and this is reflected in a heap of new options that are inspired by many of the iconic characters introduced in Star Wars Rebels™ and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story™.

What that means is that Dawn of Rebellion is going to open up some unique and unexplored options for character and storytelling in the Star Wars Galaxy. Here are some quick facts about the book:

An unprecedented six universal specializations – these are available for just about every character. They are designed to boost your character while providing a bridge between your character past and future.

Four new species choices – Each will have unique traits that reflect their diverse backgrounds. Also their species history will be detailed so you can get a sense of their place in the galaxy. Those histories will be fertile ground to plow for adventure hooks and ideas!

However, one of the things I’m most excited to learn about are the fates of the Clone Troopers. They are getting some “screen time” with their own Retired Clone Trooper Talent Tree:

Just a clone teaser…

The Retired Clone Wars Troopers have 6 new career skills and a very different talent tree. 18 of the 20 talents in the tree are passives that simply boost your character just for having them. That said, their more active talents can be extremely useful in a fight. Take Comrades in Arms from above – Make a Hard Disicpline check and if passes, the character gets some defensive boosts for themselves and any applicable allies.

We’re also getting access to the Gentle Giants nick named “Snow Wookies” – the Gigorans.

They have been nicked named Snow Wookies for two reason – 1) their snowy climate and 2) “Gigorans stand over two meters tall with long and powerful arms and torsos, but their imposing figures are belied by their friendliness and almost joyful curiosity.”

Yep – sounds very Wookie like to me. Unfortanely, they also were treated pretty harsh and taken advantage of by the unscrupulous slave traders. That tramatic experience changes their once friendly demeanor. Some join up with those who fight for freedom. Other turn toward darker paths finding solace in cause pain to others…

Mechanically speaking, they make pretty good fighter-types with their innately higher Brawn and bonus rank in Brawl to start. They might shy away from fixing things, but if you’ve gained the trust of a Gigoran, you’ve got a tough bodyguard on your side.

All of these options and much, much more are going to be available in Dawn of Rebellion – up for pre-order from FFG now!

The dominance of the Empire is absolute. No authority in galactic history has enjoyed such a degree of power. So, what are you going to do about it? Some will take advantage of the system and turn a profit any way they can. Others may quest to find secret truths that could unravel even the most imposing social order. A few will even take up arms against an invincible foe. They may even have a chance to win.

Dawn of Rebellion is a 144-page sourcebook designed to be a companion to any and all of the Star Wars™ Roleplaying Game lines. Describing the Star Wars universe in the years leading to the original film trilogy, it sets the stage of a dangerous galaxy primed for war. The stories you tell, however, will be on your own terms starting from the perspective of the Edge of the Empire, Age of Rebellion, or Force and Destiny and are then shaped by your own vision. Included in the sourcebook are new talent and species options for players, modular scenarios for gamemasters to include in their campaigns, and a wealth of information about the organizations, characters, and history that make the Star Wars saga so iconic.

Yes – I finally get to play as Clone Trooper…Still on his mission to secretly complete Order 66. “What’s that Mr. Jedi? Oh sorry I was just thinking about my youth.”
