Hey, you got your science on my board game – Come check out Cytosis on the next Tabletop Spotlight!

I LOVE a good game based on Science and Cytosis is a perfect fit. Our friends at Dragon’s Lair Comics & Fantasy brought this one over and it got all my biology class memories going:

Cytosis, at it’s core, is a worker placement game. Only instead of placing “people” at locations on a map, you’re placing “workers” on organelles. The map is based on a human cell and how a human cell biology works ( there is a whole reference section included that details everything you probably learned in your biology class in middle school but forgot – I find that type of thing fascinating). Your workers are there to gather resources that you can spend to get new Cell Component cards or make Proteins. Ultimately, your goal is to score points by building different parts within the cell to score Health Points.

Mechanically, it’s a pretty well done game. The science behind it is sound but what I also really enjoyed about this one was the art style. It’s got a lot of vibrant colors and it reminds me of those sci-fi movies like Fantastic Voyage. This version of the game also included the Virus expansion which can ratchet up the difficulty as well. Overall, I think Cytosis is a perfect game for kids or Biology Teachers/Students that want to try “practice what they teach” in school. If you’re a parent and looking to play a game with your kids or if you’re a college student that needs to get a visual aid to help with Biology then check out Cytosis: A Cell Biology Game – in stores now!

Cytosis: A Cell Biology Game

Cytosis: A Cell Biology Game, is a worker placement game that takes place inside a human cell! Players take turns placing workers on available organelles within a human cell in order to collect resources (such as Carbohydrates or ATP!) or take actions (such as purchasing Cell Component cards or translating mRNA into Proteins!)

Players use their resources to build Enzymes, Hormones, and Hormone Receptors and also to help detoxify the cell – all of which score health points. The player with the most health points at the end of the game wins!
