We have the Codex – join us as we go through the Army Lists & All the rules!

Here comes the Adeptus Custodes–everyone’s favorite shiny golden fancy boys. Over the weekend we sat down with the Codex and went through the army lists to figure out just what the Custodes forces would bring to the table. First up you’ll find a look at the armies of the Custodes, then a look at the relics, stratagems, warlord traits, and all. The biggest takeaway though, is that each and every one of these guys is named Chet or Tanner or Bentley.

These armies put the elite in the Elite battlefield role. It’s a mercy that the Custodex allows them to technically field forces that aren’t elite (they have troops! seriously!) but by and large this is an army that will be starved for models. Which one the one hand means army transport is pretty easy, and that your turn order will go fast. But on the other hand, it means you won’t have the same firepower at your disposal as other armies do.

Survivability is your watchword, and if you’re going to play the Custodes you’ll want to wield them with finesse.

Fortunately, the Custodex gives the army a suite of tools that should help them get the job done. You’ll have like one turn where you get to use any of your Stratagems, and then your poor Command point budget will be spent forever, but the challenge of the Custodes is making everything they do count. I feel like they offer an interesting tactical puzzle–how economically can you play. What units, if taken out, will take the wind out of your opponent’s sails. What are the biggest threats and how effectively can you deal with them–these are questions any commander should be asking, but the Custodes live and die by them. So if you want that challenge, then keep scrolling on down and grab the book already.

The Adeptus Custodes are the Emperor’s personal guard. For ten thousand years they have stood sentinel over the Master of Mankind and defended the gates of his palace. Yet now the Emperor’s blades are unsheathed. Biochemically fashioned from infancy to function as supreme tacticians, combatants and bodyguards, they are death incarnate to those who oppose the Emperor’s will. Each Custodian is sublimely skilled, their talents and abilities to the Space Marines what those transhuman warriors are to unaugmented Imperial soldiery. The Ten Thousand walk the stars in numbers not seen since the Great Crusade, and woe betide those who stand in their way.

The Custodes must be All-Stars, because all that glitters is gold.
