Games Workshop has two new introductory games on the way – here’s the official announcement.

This past weekend at the New York Toy Fair, Games Workshop unveiled two new games that will be making they debut later. They are both introductory games designed for first-timers with quicker play-times.

Space Marine Adventures allows 1-4 players to join forces and attempt to break into a Necron labyrinth. Choose your hero and use each character’s unique skills to battle various deadly hazards, not least of which are the Necron guardians themselves. The easy-build nature of the kits and intuitive game make it suitable for players aged 8 and over – good for anything from family games nights to a quick adventure for a regular gaming club. While this set is a great introduction to the 41st Millennium, each Space Marine in the set is also a unique and dynamic sculpt, making them great additions to an existing collection, too.

Blitz Bowl is a new way to play Blood Bowl. The teams are smaller, the games are faster but the action is just as intense, as each player seeks to distinguish themselves in the eyes of Nuffle* in the infamous Crush recruitment rituals in fast-paced skirmish games.

Both of these new games are self-contained and have everything you need to play right in the box. These are clearly designed to be one-stop-shopping sets; buy them and play them immediately.

Space Marine Adventures is a 1-4 player game and as we saw earlier has a Marine vs Necron theme. From the looks of the game, players will be assuming the role of the Marines and will be battling against the Necrons and whatever else is in the “labyrinth” they are exploring. This certainly has a dungeon-delve vibe to it.

A modular board with tiles, lots of tokens and cards, and unique and dymanic sculpts – depending on the price point, we could have a perfect introductory set for Warhammer 40,000.

Blitz Bowl is the other new game from GW. Honestly, this looks like a 1/2 sized version of Blood Bowl. The board looks smaller, the teams look like they have 6 models each. But based on the cards and stats, (and the similar reference sheet/dice/counters/etc.) it should just be a faster Blood Bowl game. However, there does appear to be some differences…

Note the “End Game Challenge” cards at the bottom of this picture – those are new. It’s very possible that this game will have some very different “scoring” options in the game. Color me curious. Blood Bowl is a fun game, but anything that takes that same level of strategy and intensity of a game and distills it down into 1/2 the time sounds like it could be really good.

We don’t have any set release dates for these products other than “later in the year” but we’ll be keeping an eye out for these new games.

What do you think of these two new “Board Game” type offerings from GW?
