AoS: Idoneth Deepkin Deep Dive & More

3 Minute Read
Apr 18 2018

The Idoneth Deepkin are a brand new faction to the game of Warhammer: Age of Sigmar. It’s an exciting addition and we’re taking a look at what makes them tick with a new Deep Dive into the Lore, Rules, and Units of these new Ethersea Aelves!

I’ve had a LOT of questions about the Deepkin. What’s their backstory? Where did they come from? Why did they rebel against Teclis? How can they float into battle on the backs of sea-creatures when there is NO SEA!? Some of the questions I had were practical, some were fantastical – but most of those were answered when we got our hands on the new Battletome:

Overall, I think the Idoneth are a great new addition to the game. They help fill in some of the blanks about Slaanesh and they introduce a ton of new lore as well. Like the fact that there are under-water Realmgates that have been discovered. Or that the ‘soul-siphon’ of Slaanesh functioned on a Last-in, First-out basis. Or that the ‘soul-thief’ abilities of the Deepkin don’t work on the Stormcast. Or…well, lots of things!

We also cover the rules and units in the book as well – but those will be available as Games Workshop brings more of those up for pre-order. We already got our Leviadon up and on the table. As well as Lotann, and the Namarti Thralls:

The models in the range are pretty amazing – they are exactly what you’d expect in terms of detail and quality from Games Workshop. The Leviadon in particular is a really cool kit because it could be built without the Howdah on top and it would look like a giant sea turtle kit! I can’t wait to see what crazy conversions the community comes up with for that model.

We’re working on getting three more of the kits ‘ship-shape’ and on the tabletop. The High King Volturnos, the Gloomtide Shipwreck and the Eidolon as well:

The Eidolon is another one of those kits that is pretty mind-blowing and will pose a serious hobby challenge. We do have some concerns about the contact points on the base with that model, but we think if you pin it or use plastic glue and let the bonds REALLY set, you should be okay. Just don’t rush putting that one together.

The Gloomtide Shipwreck is another one of those kits that has a dual purpose much like the Gnarlmaw of Nurgle, you can use this kit as a terrain piece, or you can use the special rules if you’re playing an Idoneth Deepkin army. The rules are out now so you can read them for yourself:

The Deepkin get to bring an ‘Etheric Vortex’ terrain feature with them to battle so if you’re planning an army, you might also want to consider one of these kits.

We’re really excited to see the next wave of these miniatures and hope to explore more of the lore and units as Idoneth make landfall in the coming weeks. Are you ready to face the might of the Ethersea?

What do you think of the Deepkin – are you going to take the plunge and start a new army?
