Ninja Division and Games Workshop have partnered up to bring a new Card Game – Warhammer: Doomseeker! Take the role of a Slayer and face your Doom!

Spotted at GAMA and releasing at GenCon, Warhammer: Doomseeker brings the Dwarf Slayers into fast-paced card slinging action. Each player assumes the role of a Slayer who is seeking glorious death in combat and today we’ve got a quick look at the gameplay of just how you can go about seeking your own doom!

At the start of the game, each player chooses a slayer. Your slayer is your character for the game, and it lists your wounds, strength, and any special abilities.

Players also receive a Grudge Card – this represents your secret objective for the game:

The Grudge Card is kept hidden from the other players. It is finally revealed at the end of the game and if you complete your grudge, you score additional renown. The player with the most renown wins so these Grudges help to keep the other players guessing.

“Once everyone has a slayer and a grudge, set up the battlefield by flipping over five dooms and five treasure cards. Generally, dooms and treasures will always be replaced on the battlefield from the relevant deck once they are defeated or discarded. Each player also receives a hand of five fate cards.”

Gameplay after setup is pretty straight forward – each player starts their turn by drawing a fate card. Then they choose a Doom to fight. Once a player has selected a Doom, each player will be able to play a fate card to influence the fight. This is where the game can get a little back-stabby… Fate cards can help or hinder the Slayer in their fight against Doom. Just remember, Dwarfs carry grudges and have long memories.

Again, these Fate cards can do lots of things – including knocking a fellow Slayer out of the way to to take the Doom on yourself! Once everyone has had a chance to throw-in a Fate card, the fight begins. The Slayer who is fighting rolls a die, adds up any modifiers (positive and negative), adds their strength and checks the total vs the Dooms strength. If the Slayer total is equal or greater than the Doom’s total, the Slayer wins and can add the Doom to their scoring pile.

However, if the Slayer’s total is less than the Doom’s total, the Doom is discarded and the Slayer suffers a wound!

Doom cards don’t just give the player renown – you also get gold for defeating them. Gold can be used to buy goods from the treasure store – these items will help you out along your way making your Slayer tougher and stronger – grant other various effects.

Now, along the way Slayers will die in combat. When that happens, the Doom is added to the Slayer’s score pile (it’s assumed that the Slayer and Doom died in an epic battle). But don’t worry if your Slayer is killed – you can still participate in the game! They can still add fate cards to the fights and can also bet on the outcomes of the fights of the living Slayers! Every correct bet score them more renown.

The game ends when there are no more Doom cards in the Doom deck. At this point, Slayers count up their totals and the Slayer with the most renown wins!

Overall, it looks like a pretty fast, combat-driven game. The game will officially launch at GenCon but even if you can’t attend it should be arriving at retail stores around the same time.
