FFG and the creator of Magic the Gathering have a new CCG coming later this year. Take a look at Keyforge.

It was only a matter of time. FFG has finally put down a flag in the CCG part of the industry – one of the last they had not entered. If you are going to stake a claim in that rough and tumble genre alongside Magic, Pokemon and Ju-Gi-Oh!, you need to have some strong branding, street cred and a lot of money behind you.

Keyforge looks to have all three.

Created by Richard Garfield who decades back invented the behemoth Magic the Gathering, and with FFG financial might behind it – this will be a product to watch. Here’s the basics on game’s first launch products:

Some Basics

  • The Game plays with unique decks, and each Archon Deck comes with a unique selection of cards.
  • Even the starter set contains two unique Archon Decks along with fixed learning cards.
  • There are 7 factions, each with strengths and weaknesses (strong, fast, etc…)
  • The goal of the game is to create 3 keys. The first player who does wins.
  • You activate unit cards to perform actions, one of which is to collect Æmber.
  • Æmber is later used to forge the Keys used to achieve victory.
  • Cards don’t have a cost to activate, and you may activate all the units of a single faction at once.
  • The video says each dech may use cards from up to three factions.
  • It will launch with  an app/website to upload decks and track stats.

Keyforge app – 3D attacking monsters not included.

~How do you think this will do entering the industry up against the other CCG giants?
