Sometimes you just have to let your beard down and ride eternal. Doomseeker lets your live all your Dwarven Slayer fantasies about fighting overwhelming odds of monsters and dying in glorious battle!

Dwaven Slayers are known for a few things: beards, grudges, axes, and their fiery disposition. In Doomseeker you take on the role of one of these slayers fated for something glorious as you cut down swaths of foes in this card game for 2-4 players:

The basics of the game are pretty simple. You are a slayer. You’re trying to gain renown/victory points. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins. How you gain those points is also simple – kill stuff, complete objectives (aka grudges) and face your doom!

Once players have picked their Slayer, you setup the board as below. Every player is dealt a grudge card facedown (only the player can look). Players are also dealt 5 fate cards. The it’s time for the fighting!

On a players turn they get 1 fate card. Then they can choose which “doom” to fight. “Dooms” are basically the foes that the slayers must face down. You get gold/renown/etc. for slaying the doom. To defeat a doom a player must beat the doom’s strength with a d6 roll plus their current strength value.

But not so fast – players can also attempt to interfere or help the active player out with Fate cards. This is where the game gets a bit “munchkin-like” as players use those fate cards to manipulate the fight…or just jump in the front of the player and fight the doom themselves!

Once the doom is defeated the player can then get the reward and go shopping. The items in the shop have various benefits from adding more strength to your slayer to helping you heal.

If a player fails to defeat a doom they suffer a wound. If they lose all their wounds…they DIE! But dead players can still impact the game as they still draw fate cards and can play them during fights. Be nice to the dead spirits of the slayers or they will haunt you!

When all the doom cards are dealt with, the game ends and players count their totals. The player with the most points wins! It’s a pretty fast and fun game with most games taking about 30-60 minutes. I got to see folks play it at GenCon and they went from just opening the box to playing games in no time. Doomseeker is easy to learn and infiniately playable as you get to mess with your friends on their self-destructive path for glory! Just remember, you’re playing slayers and it’s okay to carry a grudge.
