Joe Cornish – the director behind Attack the Block – is going medieval in his net movie. This first look reminds me of the gang of best friends against the world movies of the 1980s mashed with the magical worlds created in the early aughts, and a little bit of that Amblin feeling. Take a look…

It’s fairly obvious who they’re aiming for with this – hello Harry Potter fans. It looks like a light bit of fun, and something you can take your kids to that has some humor for the grown-ups thrown in. This is what PG-13 movies should be, though. The cast is led by Louis Ashbourne Serkis (Andy is his dad) as Alex, Patrick Stewart plays Merlin, and Rebecca Ferguson as the evil Morgana. The official synopsis…

Old school magic meets the modern world in the epic adventure THE KID WHO WOULD BE KING. Alex thinks he’s just another nobody, until he stumbles upon the mythical Sword in the Stone, Excalibur. Now, he must unite his friends and enemies into a band of knights and, together with the legendary wizard Merlin, take on the wicked enchantress Morgana. With the future at stake, Alex must become the great leader he never dreamed he could be.

The Kid Who Would Be King comes out February 15th in the UK, and March 1st in the US.
