The Custodes arrived with a BANG last January, then disappeared into the mists of 40K. Let’s see if Chapter Approved give the Emperor’s finest a new lease on life.

Custodes were all the rage when they arrived last January. Everyone’s minds melted when they saw the minis, and I think we can agree the community jumped on the golden bandwagon just a bit.

Within a couple of months waves of Jetbike Shield Captains were ruling over the skies of tabletops across the world before the Rule of 3 ended their reign.

Chapter Approved has burnished up the Guardians of the Emperor – let’s see how they did:

A Teensy Bit Overcosted

As CA2018 seems to be doing across the board, many units got a 5-10 pt reduction. These don’t matter as much compared to horde lists on the super low model-count Custodes lists, but they do add up. Here’s the recipients:

  • Allarus Custodians -5pts
  • Custodian Wardens -6pts
  • Shield Captains -10pts

Over-costed

Shield Captain in Terminator Armor

A 20 pt drop for these fellows to 110 will help you squeeze in some more wargear into your list. Time to start handing out the Miseracordias.

Steep Discounts

These guys were way over the top and got very hefty discounts.  While the Custodes infantry were a hit from the start, folks declared the vehicles overcosted and DOA from the start. We’ll have to see if any golden Land Raiders and Contemptors start showing up.

  • Venerable Contemptor Dread -40pts
  • Venerable Land Raider -66pts to 217
  • Trajan Valoris -65pts to 185

Odds & Ends

The discounted Salvo Launcher may see its appearance in limited numbers in Vertus Jetbikes, maybe one per squad for utility, while the Storm Shield -5pt discount will see more of them for characters.

Hey Forge World – WTH?

While not Chapter Approved related The Custodes are one of the few armies with a lot of impressive 30K minis just sitting there, waiting for 40K datasheets. After 11 months, I am genuinely scratching my head about why GW hasn’t had the Design Studio take a day to knock out a dozen new units to both spike sales and instantly expand the Custodes list overnight.

~For the Emperor!

P.S. I think Custodes may be a really nice army to ally with Sisters. On first glance I think they complement each other well. Experimental lists are being worked on…
