We are super excited about the Godsworn Hunt Warband coming to Warhammer Underworlds but not for the reason you might think.
The Godsworn Hunt Warband is coming to Warhammer Underworlds as a new option to play in the current season of the game. They are bringing wizard to the game (which was a new thing for the seasons of Nightvault) and they seem like a pretty cool Warband to play. They are a pretty flexible lot of fighters that will be able to cast spells, have a number advantage, AND pack a punch in combat. But those are not the reasons we’re most excited to see them come to the game.
No, the real reason we’re excited to see them enter the fray of Warhammer Underworlds is because that means we’re that much closer to seeing them on the tabletop in Warhammer: Age of Sigmar! These models are very clearly in line with the Dark Oath models:
The visual motifs are pretty clear and they have a strong theme that runs through all the models. These are very clearly the mortal followers of the Chaos gods and that means we might FINALLY get to retire these models:
As a long time player of the Mortals of Chaos (formerly known as Chaos Warriors) these models have been around for a LONG time and they are starting to show their age. The Marauder Horsemen got a revamp awhile back and they were actually the first models to showcase this new look:
You can see the shift here – they had the more “realistic” scale of muscles, the Mohawk-lite look, and a nod to the future armored pauldron and leather straps. The Godsworn look like the designers took those elements from the Marauder Horsemen and just dialed them up a few notches.
Each of the members of the Godsworn Hunt looks like they might be a different aspect for the revamped Chaos Marauders that are being teased here. We’ve got 2 different ranged options (a bow and a javelin option), we’ve got two close combat options (a twisted sword and big, two-handed axe), and we’ve got a Chaos Wizard as the leader (plus a chaos dog, too!)
If the Godsword are hints at what’s to come for the Mortal followers of Chaos then I’m super excited! They will fit in perfectly along side the Dark Oath Champ and Queen. And they will look great on the tabletop with their wild, barbarian look in stark contrast to the heavily armored and more regimented look of the Chaos Warriors:
Again, I’m are excited to see a new warband coming to Warhammer Underworlds and if you want to preview their rules, you can do that HERE. But I’m most excited with the idea that these models might just be the future of the Chaos Marauders – and it’s about freaking time!
Bring on the crazy and wild chaos hordes!
