“When there’s no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth.” Or in our case, they will invade the tabletop. Come check out our inspiration for the Flesh-eater Courts from the silver screen!

The Flesh-eater Courts are coming to Warhammer: Age of Sigmar with a new battletome and they are looking pretty hungry. While these ghouls might not be your typical undead zombies, you can clearly see the inspiration. So lets make another trek to the cross section of Warhammer and Pop Culture with a look at some movies that come to mind when we think of the Flesh-eater Courts!

Dawn of the Dead (1978)

Really you could pick pretty much ANY of the Romero Zombie movies because they all do a pretty good job with the whole “Flesh-eater” part of the Ghoul/Zombie/Vampire thing. They are pretty clearly flesh-eating and are your typical Zombies as well – Romero pretty much wrote the book on it (or at least quite a few movies). If wanting something to inspire your gore-fueled Flesh-eater Courts, why not start with a classic?

28 Days Later (2002)

Rage-infected super virus or not – to me it doesn’t matter. 28 Days Later introduced the world to the concept of the dreaded “fast zombie” and the entire genre has been impacted by it. Regardless, this movie can be quite intense if you haven’t seen it before – so maybe don’t try to paint your army while watching it (at least the FIRST time). It still holds up and if you need something to get your blood pumping for your Flesh-eaters, 28 Days Later is a great way to do just that!

30 Days of Night (2007)

The Flesh-eater Courts are kind of a mix of Vampires, Zombies, and Ghouls. And while there are dozens of great vampire movies out there, we had to mention 30 Days of Night. Why? Because these vampire are smart as well as cruel. They stalk their prey during the darkest time of the year and they pretty much have the run of the small Alaskan town they are feeding in. If you think about it, this movie showcases that undead cunning pretty well and that’s why it’s on our list!

The Descent (2005)

The Descent was a pretty unique horror flick at the time (and honestly still is). But, to us, it’s also one of the only movies that really shoots to the top of our minds when we think of the word “Ghoul” because, depending on the universe, Ghouls are sometimes not actually undead. Ghouls can be “alive” and they eat the flesh of the dead in a very cannibalistic way. The creatures in this movie aren’t exactly human but they aren’t the living dead either. If you’re looking for a movie to inspire your idea of Ghouls, check this one out.

Fright Night (1985)

Fright Night is a weird mix of funny and horror. But the reason it’s on our list is because of the Make-up in this movie. When the Vampire starts to go full-out Vampire mode, it starts to look like the Flesh-eater Courts type of undead. The big mouths, the wings, the teeth, the claws – all of it makes for a terrifying visage of these creatures. Sure, the special effects are a little cheesy, but they are still better than some of the CGI in movies theses days.

There are SO many other movies that could fit the bill as examples for the Flesh-eater Courts. The OG Nosferatu, to Bram Stokers Dracula, to the Hammer Horror movies, and then all the great zombie flicks…seriously we could make a top 100 and probably still have more to go.So that’s where you come in:

Let us know your favorite movies that you think do a great job of showcasing the Flesh-eater Courts in particular and why!
