Goatboy here again with the list I plan on taking to the LVO.  I went with a Death Guard list as it was fun to play with, and should let me finish turns pretty quickly and efficiently.

I decided to try out some Plague Marines as I think they can be ok – especially with some Stratagem combos and spell combos.  Plus it let me paint up and convert some new ones.  Overall I think I will win some games with this and at least have a good time pushing some green gross dudes around.  Here is the list in the ITC format (which I didn’t get an email saying there was an issue with it – so win for me).

Death Guard Tactics

As you can see I went with 17 Plague Marines as my troops.  I wanted to try out the Grenade Stratagem with the mixed in combos from the army.  I thought it could be interesting to all of a sudden pop out, throw some Grossness onto a Knight, and laugh when they realize they got poo gassed out.  There is the basic normal Plagueburst trio you see in most Death Guard armies as well.  I waffled between these guys and the Bloat Drones – but went with the Crawlers as I didn’t want to run a Daemon Prince this time.

Yup – there is not a single Daemon Prince in my army this year.  I don’t know what the heck I am doing – but decided to go with the Jump Pack Plague Bringer Chaos lord.  For those wondering what he does – with a little help from Ahriman and a Malignant Plaguecaster – the Chaos lord can come in with 5 attacks (more if imperium), hitting on 2+ Rerollable, and then wounding on 2+ – 3+ depending on what he is fighting against.  Mix in the Arch Contaminator warlord trait and he is rerolling to wound.  Adding in Blades of Purification and Veterans of the Long war – this guy is also causing a single Mortal wound on a 4+ and 2 mortal wounds on a 5+ in addition to his normal damage that sits at d3.  Not too bad when he jumps up, hits a Knight, and scares the doodoo out of them.

The Elite section gives me my long range fire power in the Contemptors and the Grenade combo.  I threw in Foul Blightspawn as a fun extra as he can shower an enemy with his flamer.  I don’t know how good he will be but it was hard to figure out what other option I could throw in there.  I guess I could have put in the Tallyman – but I don’t think I will be burning through all my CPs in a game – beyond some random power swaps for Ahriman and the Veterans of the Long war.

From there I had to add in Ahriman was I needing some powerful spell casting.  The 3 spawn let me not burn a CP to have him in there – plus they give me a model you have to give a little bit more attention too then just some Cultists.  Sitting in at 75 its and giving me a Command point will be helpful as they run around the table, gibber over an objective or two, and probably give up a kill for a few turns if the opponent wants to pay attention to them.

But there you go – a few old school looking Death Guard army without any Cultists, Daemon Princes, and Pox Walkers.  Plus I didn’t even take a combo with some Daemons to grab plague bearers.  I am thinking that the new GSC and other armies in general will need me to paint up 30 Plague Bearers soon.  Will see if that is my next “gift” to myself in the coming year beyond the sweet Leviathan I painted for this Death Guard army.

~If you are going to LVO come on by and say hi and see if I can get myself up to a winning record at the end.
