Battletome Fyreslayers is coming next week and bringing with it a host of tweaks, changes, and updates for everyone’s favorite shirtless beardy berzerkers. Here’s what you can expect to see.

Fyreslayers are what you get when a bunch of dwarves decided that they could fit more axes into their inventory if they weren’t weighed down by all those clothes. And these glorious bois have all the axes you could possibly want: X, Y, Z, some weird fourth-dimensional direction we can’t conceptualize. To reflect this good good graphing joke, as well as the new Age of Sigmar 2.0 rules, they are getting some significant upgrades in their upcoming Battletome. It’s a regular festival of Fyre right now, let’s take a look.

First up, our spicy bois (there’s no way these Duardin aren’t flamin’ hot) have a reworked Rune of Farsight, which is the only major change to their core allegiance ability.

An extra +1 to hit with the most common ranged weapon is pretty good for those turns when you don’t think you’re going to get into the fight this turn. But this is probably the most minor change. There are many other changes we should get to.

Perhaps the biggest change is that the fyrey nougat at the core of every Fyreslayers army, the Vulkite Berzerkers, Hearthguard Berzerkers, and Auric Hearthguard, has gotten that much creamier, by which I mean to say, every one of these units now comes with an extra wound than you’re used to, and has gotten a buff to their core rule abilities. Like the Vulkites, who will keep fighting on even though they are dead.

Or the Auric Hearthguard, who can stop your opponent’s Monsters from getting to you if you roll well.

Or the Hearthguard Berzerkers, who have more attacks now.

Fyreslayers also get to use magic now, just like every army, even the ones that don’t use magic like Khorne. They have Zharrgrim blessings, which are buff spells, except they’re not spells, but it’s cool Khorne said it was okay. These Prayers have some powerful effects if you can keep your Auric Runesmiters or -masters near your favorite units.

And along with all of this, you’ll get new customization options so you can make the Fyreslayer of your dreams. You can get everything from special leader traits, mount traits, and artifacts. Everything except a shirt. Here are a few menu options.

You can start to see the different kinds of Fyreslayer “builds” that are there–you might be good at fighting a lot with the Blood of the Berzerker and Grimnir’s Fury, or you might make a cool Magma-centric hero using this formula:

Either way, that’s not the end of the changes. Fyreslayers also now have their own special subfactions, called Lodges. Each Lodge has its own special trait, ability, command ability, and magic item. Here’s just a taste of what you’ll find in the book.

As you can see, this represents a pretty significant buff to the faction overall. This feels like a reinvigorating shot in the arm for the beleaguered battlers. We’re excited to see how the new Magmic Blessings and Forge work out for them.

Battletome Fyreslayers is out next week, so start compiling a list of questions.

Because the Fyreslayers will be happy to axe them for you.
